The last two weeks flew by since my trip to Nunavut and I am once again headed back to Canada. This time to Newfoundland with Akhaia Outfitter.
My previous two attempts for a mature Eastern Moose were unsuccessful so I chose this outfit for their hunting style. They hunt a remote area in the far Northeastern part of Newfoundland. Access is by helicopter only, they sling in all the camping gear with the guide and then I follow. All hunting will be done on foot from the spike camp and the area should have no pressure from local hunters which raises the odds of success significantly.
I started the long day of travel at 2:45AM when I woke to my alarm, took a shower, grabbed my to go cup of coffee and made the 2 hour drive to San Antonio.
I am flying on United and Air Canada so hoping for better luck with the bags this trip.
Check in was pretty smooth and I use CLEAR which made getting through security a breeze. The flight left on time and we took off at 6:30 for the first stop in Chicago. After a lengthy layover I’m off to Toronto and ultimately to Deer Lake. The scheduled arrival is 1AM tomorrow so I should be in my hotel by 2. Then up at 7 and weather permitting I’ll be flown to the camp.
