Someone just stole a Heym 88b for $16,000 in 450/400

Lucky them! Hope it gets put to good use

Was the 450/400 a 3” or 3 1/4”?

Morphy Auctions...it was a 3" circa 2007. @Jager Waffen74, tell me you bought that rifle.

It was a PH model. It had some wear on it but honestly not bad at all. I couldn't see the barrel well enough to tell how much the "mottling and freckling" was.

Yea those auctions fees definitely add up. I bought 2 doubles from Rock Island as my first purchase boy did I learn my lesson.

Yea, on Texas taxes that gun is $$21,390.20 before shipping and insurance.
yea I was watching both I think its a fair representation of the market but not a "deal" there is the member here with a 450 listed for a little bit now also a ph.

the 470 went much higher than I thought given the age and condition but it wasn't the PH model.

I think the market places more value on 470 and 500 than I do.

Also came to find out they charge the buyer and seller! Great business.

15-20% Seller and 17-18% buyer. Not exact numbers but you get the idea.

I watched both live and was so close to bidding on the 450/400. It had some freckling and handling marks but all easily cleaned up and many, many years of good use left in that rifle.

I just already have 2 doubles in 450/400 and picked up a 2nd 375 flanged 88b this morning. Just back from my bighorn hunt and leave for Zim in under 3-weeks….restraint got the better of me on that rifle. I kept expecting another bid. With no sales tax in AK, after shipping I’d been into it for about $21,000. I sold the same exact configured rifle, just two-digits earlier serial number last summer for $23k…granted that rifle was mint condition and less than 100rnds down the barrels combined.

I think whomever got the 450/400 did splendid. The 470, after the issues I had with the Jeager import era 470 I tried to buy, I steer clear unless I have proof that JJ or Ken have already re-regulated them. Less scared of a 500 in that era, but any 470 regulated with Federal ammo…which the Jeager guns were, may have some significant regulation work required unless you want to shoot super-literally loads or want regulation where standard loads cross at under 20 yards.

I am out of town, what did the .470 sell for?

What was interesting is they had the 470 listed as 2006 mfg date when it was really 1986 based on date code and it was even marked West Germany! They didn't put a note on the catalog until about a week before the auction.

I never bother with auctions, the fees are typically insane.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
