Has anyone hunted Anticosti Island in Quebec??
Any recommendations?? (Beyond basic google)
Thanks!!

how is your french?
biere, merde, and putain is about the extent of my French vocabulary....Only because my sister in-law teaches it at USC and that's what I have picked up along the way

I looked into it when one of my kids was at university in Montreal. From what I remember, there’s one outfitter on the island, and he tends to be pretty well booked all the time. That said, if you can get a spot, I have heard a great time will be had.

Never spent any time on anticosti but I’ve spent a fair bit on the isle da la madeleine another island off of Quebec. Not speaking French wouldn’t scare me Quebecers get a bad rap but in my experience most of them outside the cities don’t have the attitude they are accused of.

Several friends have hunted anticosti from what I know you won’t shoot monster bucks but a license is good for 5 deer.

Yeah, it looks like there is maybe two outfitters, and they mostly book groups. The hunting does look pretty amazing. I believe SCI gave the island its own sub-species category for trophy purposes

That would really be apples and oranges to compare the two , anticosti is going to be a way easier more relaxed hunt than Kodiak. Stay in a chalet every night and dine on world class seafood compared to tents and dodging bears.

Yes and this has caused a backlog of several years to get a spot. I know guys who have offered to pay double and still can’t get a spot. Might as well forget it now.

If you are looking for an interesting island hunt manitoulin would also be worth looking into, part of the province of Ontario so English speaking. Cape breton also has good deer hunting most people don’t realize that as it is over shadowed by its moose hunt.

Sorry to insert my obvious bias against all things Quebec.

I’m not particularly fond of Quebecers either they speak a different dialect of French than we do here and tend to look down on Nova Scotians for bastardizing the French language. I’ve not had that experience with rural Quebecers though those on the islands and around the gulf of Saint Lawrence are very nice people. Montreal completely different story. But then in my experience the same could be said of many places they don’t call them Massholes for nothing but outside of the city of Boston itself I’ve never dealt with an ignorant mass. Resident.

I really wish I could have made the hunt work out as it sounds/seems like a singular experience. I suspect that one of the well-known outfitters might be able to work some magic. Hope this comes together for you.

that is french but not the quebecer one lol ... there is also the state outfitter SEPAQ but again without speaking french it might be harder but not impossible for sure. anyway good luck, i ve been invited three times and declined so might not the best one to talk about it lol ...

I remember back in the late 80's early 90's Sepaq Anticosti was kind of a hunting fad for awhile. They supposedly had incredible density and shot some nice bucks but nowhere near like the size deer in Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Alberta.

I've seen a few videos of Anticosti over the years and it looks like a pretty cool hunt, kind of a wild remote location kinda vibe.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
