.270 Winchester – 130 gr Nosler Partitions

Anyone here use the 130-grain Nosler Partition factory loads in a .270 Winchester?

I just picked up a .270 and a local gun store has these on sale for almost 50% off, so I’m tempted to stock up. I’ve always heard good things about the Partition, but I’d particularly like to hear from anyone who has actually used the factory ammunition.

How has the accuracy been in your rifle, and what has your experience been on deer, hogs, or other game?

At nearly 50% off, they seem like a pretty hard deal to pass up if they perform well. Appreciate any firsthand feedback.
 
At 50% off, I would buy a couple of boxes to try out. Only your rifle will be the one to decide. If you’re hunting whitetail deer, the 130 grs will work all day long.
 
I tried that load, the Federal 140gr Accubond load, and the Federal 150gr Partition load. The 140gr shot the best, by far. The 150gr wasn’t bad. The 130gr stuff was all over the place. This was weird because it shoots all sorts of cheap 130gr loads really well. Federal Blue Box 130gr is amazing in this rifle.

Understood and appreciated, I had a chance to shoot at an indoor range, shot decent. Too hot here to go shoot at long distance outdoors. Hence soliciting feedback from ones that have used them on animals.

This is a Nosler Ammo in 130 grns partitions.

I plan to use on feral pigs running amok here..if I could.
 
They’re solid.
Most guys get good accuracy 1–1.5" out of them in a decent .270, and the Partition does exactly what it’s known for on deer and hogs holds together and penetrates. At 50% off I’d stock up without hesitation.
 
The 130 Partition with H4831 was my go to for deer when I started reloading in the 1970’s. Deer fell over dead. I still have Partitions on the shelf, but use Barnes TTSX in recent years. The Partition still is as good as ever. It will work fine.
 
don't have a .270 in the closet - but a whole raft of 7mm's, including a .280 ( .277 vs .284 - 130 gr vs 140 gr) so splitting hairs, there

Our opinion - the good old partition is still one of the best hunting bullets for NA. Covers all the bases - pretty much guaranteed expansion and usually adequate penetration. Not always the highest retained weight - but that's not exactly what that bullet is designed to do

Accuracy - not always the most accuratte projectile ( some rifles downright don't like them), but you can usually expect realistic hunting accuacy most times, and quite often just as good as the other bullets

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
