The hood over my front site is loose and when shooting it slips out of its grooves and gets all caddywampus.

Was going to bend it to increase the tension to see if that fixes the issue but thought i would post and see if this is a common issue and if there was a different fix out there.

Thx

Does the bead push into ramp from side or slide in from the front?

I had mine pop off any number of times, including on safari when removing it from a gunslip. I came to the realization that I’ll live without it for any active work including the range.

I tried tensioning it a few times but it would continue to loosen. When I sold the rifle, I included the hood but also informed them how “useful” it was.

Here is the same rifle (belonging to another AH member), living its best life in AK on a bear hunt. Notice anything missing?

The hood slides in from the front. I like CZ rifles but the hood was always cheaply made. I usually take them off of my rifles. I found them more obstructive when using open sites anyway.

.

I removed mine on my .416 & replaced the sight with a high vis sight. Have hunted it with open sights a number of times & worked like a charm !

Hoods from Williams are VERY stoutly attached. Actually, they are kind of a bitch to remove. You might try one (easily ordered from them online). Caliper the thickness of your ramp and length of the slot and I'll compare it to mine to see if it will fit.

Take it off when hunting.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
