Crimp 458WM #1?

Hey guys I just got me a Ruger No1 458WM in and in looking for dies I wondered, do I need a factory crimp dies since this is a single shot and there's no rounds in a magazine? Since there's no recoil to move the bullets around do they still need to be crimped? Thanks in advance and any other advice for loading for this round is always appreciated.
 
I crimp all straight cased rounds. This helps the powder ignition and burning due to having no shoulder to build pressure in the case, by holding the bullet back against ignition pressure buildup.
This greatly reduced standard deviations in my 2 .458 Americans. Now, I used my RCBS seating die. If I was to start over again with that or other straight sided rounds in single shots or bolt guns, I would use a Lee Factory Crimp Die as the bullet can be crimped where you want, doesn't need a cannelure groove.
 
If you are just going to a range to shoot then crimping isn't necessary but if you are going to hunt with it then crimp them. It isn't just recoil that can cause bullets to move. I had uncrimped 338wm bullets move just from bouncing around in the hunting vehicle to the point that the ammo was not reliable.

Wow I would not have expected that. I think I'm going to get the fcd and just get in the habit 9f crimping cause I'm petty sure I still want a 458 in a Model 70

For some reason you had insufficient neck tension on those rounds. I’ve had the same thing happen on uncrimped cartridges. The problem was a faulty sizing die. Bouncing around on a truck should not cause the bullets to move. Not if the occupants survived the ride!

There should be no need to crimp rounds for a single shot.
 
John Buhmiller spoke long about the necessity for crimping bullets in straight cased rounds due to exactly what I noted above.
It has not a damn thing to do with bullets sliding out of the cases or being shot in single shot rifles instead of bolt action rifles and EVERYTHING to do with the ctg's internal ballistcs.

You can see the crimp on the heavier ones, the ftx has got a slight crimp, but not what I normally put on them, all done with a Lee factory crimp die
