What big gun do you shoot the most just for fun?

I take my 458 win mag with me weekly into the bush, sometimes I shoot it once, sometimes half a dozen or more. Keeps me on good terms with it.
 
Prob the .404 Jeffery (if that counts as 'big'). Very pleasant to shoot.

But they are all fun.

When it comes to shoot big-bore rifles just for fun, in the last time I do that above all with my rifle caliber 11,2x72 Schüler. Like all medium big bores, it is comfortable to shoot and allows extended shooting serials. I have a good supply of cases and bullets on stock. The first reason, however, is that it is also the only big bore rifle I own that stays at the 7000 joule limit still accepted at our local shooting ranges, which all have this restriction on energy. I would prefer to use quite often my bolt action rifle 500 Schüler or my double rifle 600 Nitro Express for example, but I always have to drive a longer distance to find a shooting range that allows them.
 
In the past, before the strict energy regulations on the shooting ranges were in place, things were much simpler. I used to shoot my rifle caliber 460 Weatherby Magnum almost every week and not only for training, but also just for fun. The cartridge 460 Weatherby Magnum is easy to reload and the components are not very expensive compared to those for the cartridges 500 Jeffery, and especially 577 Nitro Express or 600 Nitro Express.

I really enjoy shooting my Blaser R8 PH with the 500 Jeffery barrel. Shot her in a competition recently. Just 8 rounds over 3 ranges; 25, 50 and 100 yards. Standing unsupported position for all 8 rounds.


2 shots, slow fire at 100 yards

It’s great practice for the bush. And 8 shots in a session is plenty.

Thats a Whitworth/Interarms Mark X that started life as a .458WM. Someone rechambered it to Lott and put it in that stock.

I bought it from an online auction several years ago. It seems to have been used a great deal but functions perfectly and still plenty accurate.

I assume that’s a John Saunders rifle. He did fantastic work. The 4 bore single top lever box lock rifle with the extra shotgun barrel that he brought to Beinfeld’s show in ~’95 was the best. Fit me like a glove. Always regretted not buying it, but I think it was $40,000 in 1995 dollars, double the price of extremely nice bore rifles, back then.

For fun??? No such thing as fun when my tooth fillings are jarred loose. However, with a suppressor, my .416 Rigby is a pussy cat! But pricey to shoot a lot. So, I rigged up a Model 70 in .223 to mimic my .416 so, I can pretent I am shooting the big boy...

Yes it is a John Saunders rifle . An early 1990s example . They certainly were very expensive when new . They were either 600 or 577 NE . The late Chris Soyza who ran the operations at Westley Richards had a nice example in 577 . The action is based on the George Gibbs Farquharson action ,
 
Aside from my 375 H&H and 458 WM, this signal cannon I inherited from my late father is one of my favorite big boomers to fire. Regrettably, I do not have the necessary hardware to make use of the 20mm and 37mm shells on the left... ;-).
