I have had 3 338-378 weathetby accumarks .I used them mostly in Alaska 10 years .I put them through total hell and back sand mud snow they always came out shinning .I want to take this rifle to another level .Its about 400 fps faster than a 338 win mag but i want better than that .I had several hunters tell me they used the same gun with longer barrels .I was going to put a 32 inch barrel on one but want even faster and flatter shooting .I decided on a 36 inch barrel which will add up to 600 fps which is another level .I am so use to these rifles and trust them so much ready to take the plunge .I think I will limit myself to 250 gr to 225 gr bullets .I tried 300 gr in these rifles and it kicked like a mule .I am goimg to put the same factory keiger barrel contour just a foot added .Those rifles bolt so smooth its crazy .The new rifles I see for long range bolt like crap and jsm alot .A friend just had their gunworks rifle jam on a coastsl griz .I figure this is the best way to have the rifle to reach out the furtherest with .You only live once better have fun .My factory rifles shot one inch at 300 yards with my loads hope this one will too .
 
This is the first I’ve heard of wanting a longer barrel for hunting. Adding inches (or a foot as you say) and heading into the alders for coastal browns is going to be an adventure.

I hunt the tundra mosly no trees .I just want to be able to take extra long shots
 
I have shot out to 450 yards very easy that was on trotting caribou .I want to be able to shoot to 1000 yards .I have deer to pratice on to 650 yards so will try some of those before caribou .
