Anyone using the 350’s in their Taylor and if so what powder did you choose? I have a myriad of powders and both 350 TSX and Mag Tips

Got the rifle back from Wisner and as expected it’s a dream to handle!

Decided to start with the Mag Tips as the barrel is brand new and they are cheaper for break in. Played with 3 different powders and over 5-7 grain work ups and they all were landing in damn near the same hole at 50 yds.

Wasn’t getting the speeds I was hoping for with R15 and CFE223 likely due to not being broken in and only 22” so I went towards the faster end of powders.

Tried AA2520 and easily hit 2425fps with no pressure signs and sub 3/4” groups at 100.

Should do for anything I’m liable to use it on here in WA. and to learn a big bore rifle.

That’s a good looking rig, I really like the stock.

I recently purchased a 416 Taylor, it came with loaded ammo, Barnes 350 grain TSX, I looked at the box earlier today, and I’d swear the box said 2550 fps. I’ll try to get back out to my cabin tomorrow and check that.

@MShort, I checked the ammo that I got with my rifle; all Double Tap loaded ammo

300 grain, 2700fps
350 grain, 2550fps
400grain, 2375fps

I've only shot the 350 grain ammo. My rifle with Trijicon red dot weighs just 8lbs 1oz, it's a bit of a thumper.

Thank you for the info sir, I’ll step on the gas more once I have the first 100 rds down the barrel so I know it’s broken in and sped up.

Even at 2425fps nothing will walk away from it and it’s semi enjoyable to shoot though it is sporty off the bench working up loads lol

While my 416 isn’t a Taylor but rather a Hoffman, I can assure you that 400 grain bullets at 2,400 are plenty good for anything. You note you’re at 2,375 so I think you’re ’good to go’. I’ve never shot anything except 400’s in my 416 (Cutting Edge Raptors are 370 grains and I’ve shot a few of those) but hear good things about 350’s. Personally I cannot imagine any good reason to go lighter than 350.

If I ever get another 416 bolt rifle, it’ll be a Taylor. It’s very efficient and effective.

I've wanted a .416 Taylor ever since reading John Whooter's article on it in either Rifle or G&A magazine, back in the late 60's or early 70's. He got 2,400fps with Colorado Custom 400gr. using IMR4320 powder.
The new powders should do even better than that.

Yeah, if Winchester didn't have their head up their arse in the late 60's and early 70's we would have the 416 Taylor as a standard chambering instead of the 416 Rem....

I just got a nice Belgian Browning with vintage FN Mauser action in 416 Taylor for my current safari. I am still in country so don’t have my load data accessible. I chose the 350 CEB Solids and the 325 Raptors.

I can get the actual load I went with but the solid was about 2485 fps and the Raptors 2550. This was a medium load as I did not want to take max loads on a trip in potential heat and a newer (to me) rifle. Also fairly mild on recoil.

I can assure you the performance and energy of those loads worked absolutely perfectly and to great affect on everything- Hippo, Croc, Buff and Ele!

Details to come maybe in a hunt report…

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.
