You is a silly boy a bloody big python still only has little teeth. He isn't interested in filling you with poison like a king brown or tiger snake. That big bastard python just wants to squeeze the shit out of you so gaiters of any sort don't bother him/her.

2 things Bob, I am an Aussie and as such am allowed to greatly exaggerate things. :LOL: .

Now for edumacating. Some of our squeezy friends have teeth that are longer than our venomous slithery friends. Just to hold you while the wrap around you to give you big hug...................Me, I am not keen on any of them.
 
I know 5 people that have been bitten by snakes, 4 by eastern browns and one by a tiger.
2 - were more or less fine, went into hospital and were observed for a while.
1 - wearing snake gaiters in a shed at work. All good.
1 - very recent, guy at work was tapped on the leg as he got out of his Ute. Didn’t notice until he got back that there was a snake there. Hopped in the car and noticed his lips were turning blue. Needed antivenom and a few days in hospital.
1 - a guy from another branch of my old job bitten by a tiger on the arm repeatedly. Received anti-venom but still died a couple days later. We had a statewide policy change after that to always wear snake proof gaiters outdoors in warmer months.

Yeah. Ever since Twiggy Forest bought them they have become very "boutique". Let's hope the same doesn't happen to Akubra now that he owns them too...

Two "R's " in Forrest…….
He’s a relative of mine and "allegedly " an arsehole, I have never met him ( we are too lowly for him, you know just scientists and the such like) and don’t really want to , his ex wife is reportedly a cow of a thing. I have friends who worked for him and didn’t like him at all

Being a resident of Vic and having stood on 2 Eastern Browns & at least half a dozen Red Belly Blacks I always where snake proof gaitors and heavy trousers in the warmer months. I also carry a snake bandage and the next step is an EPIRB. When you are by yourself in the bush you don't have much time and you cannot walk out, you have to do as much prep as you can.
My biggest concern is for my dog, she is confined to barracks during snake season.

Well in Vic you're either in eastern brown country or tiger country. If you're really lucky to be in an area like where I grew up their territories overlap, although we mostly had tigers (which I find more aggressive).

One of my kids stepped on a 4ft brown a couple years back, thankfully it went the other direction instead of biting.

It's the only way.

Also worth mentioning for visitors that with elapids (most of our venomous snakes) the venom moves through your body when you move. Best thing to do is sit tight and call for cavalry if you're in the bush. I always have my PLB on me.

I've seen a couple of blue tongues out sunning themselves in the past week. Snakes won't be far away.

Where I grew up it was Eastern Browns. A mile further to the west and north was Tigers and Browns as closer to water. All my worst encounters were with Browns and maybe a Taipan in Qld. Don't know if it was a Brown or Taipan, neither of us hung around long enough to have a good look at the other. :ROFLMAO:

Earlier when I said all my close encounters were in Vic, I forgot this one as the distance was a little over 2 mts not 5 foot or closer.
 
Biggest snake ever in my lifetime was a brown near Canberra. 9 feet. Laying on the road. Pulled over the pickup and he raised his head up to the cab to look at me.
