Any one else play with the 6.5 Grendel?
I got one years ago when I found out c had stoped the control rd feed.
I wanted a fa in 6,5x55 but could not find one there was a shop close by that had the Grendel in the min action the American rifle.
I used it as a replacement for a 6.8 spc
As a light recoil rifle.
I could only find 2 box of the barns copper
And 5 of wolf fmj.
So I used the barns the first year.
Later on got Hornday black and some bt ammo
And luckily a few boxes of federal fusion.
Shot a few deer 5 hogs and some coyotes with it.
The fmj did surprisingly well on coyotes.
The federal fusion I think did the best

It groped about 1 1/2 in at 100 yds
I do love the set trigger. My little nephew likes the rifle a lot.
Besides lighter bullets I can’t see much difference in it and the 6.5x55 inside 200 yds

It is a great round! Mine is an 18” ar platform and I have taken several whitetails with it and loaned it to a bunch of friends to use for their kids. Took one really good buck at 196yds and it went down fast.
I got in on it when ammo was cheap so I thankfully have lots of it

I built a grendel in 2010 re barreled Ruger m77 mk2 in 7.62x39 with a 1-8 twist Pacnor, it is a great cartridge killed lot of pigs with it using 120 grain bullets . Also built a 6 mm ARC on a similar Ruger last year same thing at 6mm. these intermediate cartridges are easy to shoot.

I have a howa mini, that just shoots better than you would expect. It is a great round for deer and smaller animals. i fins that the 100-120 gr bullets are the sweet spot for this round.

I took it to africa using 120gr Hornaday CX bullets at 2550fps. I took an Oribi, cape grysbok, copper springbuck. with it. Longest shot was 160 meters.

I bought a Ruger Mini 30, sent it to Carl at Accuracy Systems in Colorado. Converted it to 6.5 Grendel, new 20" Shilen medium heavy barrel, new gas system, new hand guard, overhauled trigger. Developed a load with 100 gr Barnes TTSX. Had it made for hogs in Texas, but that dried up on me. Will find a new place. Shoots inside 1" off the bench. What a sweet shooter!

I’ve got one on a custom AR platform with a 18” polygonally rifled barrel from black hole rifle works. If you haven’t tried a polygonally rifled barrel, you should. This rifle easily shoots 1.5”, 5 shot groups at 200. I’ve never shot a deer with it, but it has busted a lot of hogs and coyotes.

I have a CVA Scout pistol in 6.5 Grendel. It is still fairly newly to me; I have not yet hunted with it. I have a load worked up for it using 156 grain Lapua Mega bullets. I have hopes to someday put it to use for Sitka blackmail, fall caribou, and possibly PG such as impala and blesbok, and maybe a warthog.

It is a good all-around caliber for an AR platform

One of the guys i used to shoot with here in nc. Shot a rifle made for him by bill alexander at competitions.
Watched that kid keep a .68 inch group at 500m kid was unnaturally good. Never owned a grendal myself but its a solid shooting caliber.

I bought a Grendel some years back as a training rifle for my kids. Turns out it is so useful that it has become a permanent fixture in the rifle case when we go hunting. My son has 15 or so animals with this rifle which is an off the shelf Howa model. We replaced the Boyd’s at one stock with a custom aluminium AR style frame just for the fun of it. The only issue we have has is that the trigger is very sensitive. I wrote an article some years back where I compared the Grendel to the 6.5MS two rifle built 100 years apart- which one would you choose…?
I load 123 grn Hornady @2400 odd and it has proved worthy when shot placement is correct. Years ago I botched a head shot on a Blue Wildebeest with the bullet going right through the nasal cavity instead of the brain. The animal shook his head but stood still looking in my direction so I quickly put two more into the boiler room which got the animal on the trot but luckily only managed about 120 yards before dying on the run.
It is a lethal small game gun that can be used on animals upto Wildebeest but there is no room for error!

Had a Ruger American predator when I was living in New Zealand,it loved ppu 120gr factory loads.
Only reload I did for it was the 130gr game changer, powder I used was ar2206(h489). can't remember the exact load but I got it going to just over 2500 fps from the 22inch barrel.
No pressure signs and shot into about 0.75 moa.
Never got to use that load on game, just used the ppu on everything up to a large red hind

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
