SOUTH AFRICA: 7/25/26 3:22pm

Good luck, that first African hunt and animal are monumental in a hunters life.
Secretly hoping you mount at least the sable! I look at mine everyday and brings back memories that TO ME no skull can.

I checked the Delta app this morning and saw where @Andrew NOLA is well on his way. Delta 200 is taking the southern route, going down to the Brazilian coast and then hanging a left.

I see Delta finally upgraded aircraft. The triple seven's seats were horrible.

Arrived in Johannesburg last night about 7:30 PM local time. With layovers 24 hours travel.

Spent the night at city Lodge hotel, which is on the airport property. Very nice room, nice hotel , had a really nice breakfast this morning. Breakfast starts at 4 AM. Went back to the airport got on a flight to Kimberly at 7 AM. Landed at 8 AM. Got picked up by the outfitter and went to the lodge.

Everyone has heard of glamping. We are definitely glunting

Checked the sight in on the rifles, had a very nice lunch and heading out into the field at 2 PM

Will post tonight when I get back if I have anything on the ground

First time in Africa. It is a surreal experience for me. It just hasn’t really sunk in that I’m actually here. Everyone that I have interacted with so far has been incredibly friendly and has gone out of their way to help me.

I wanna shout out to Gracie travel and Nicole. They have been extraordinarily professional, have provided good advice, have communicated very well and have been very very helpful. They have definitely earned their fee. They have earned my business forever.

Below are some pictures of lour 2 bedroom bungalow. It’s not nicer than my house. It’s way nicer than my house.

I’m not going to name the outfitter because they’re not a advertiser and that would not be fair to the people who do advertise here

Went out at 2 PM. In 15 minutes I had a black wildebeest on the ground

338 WinMag, suppressor, Bell and Carlson stock with a recoil reducer. It’s like shooting a 22-250. 2750 FPS, Barnes 225TTSX.

Rifle with scope and suppressor weighs 10.5 pounds

High heart/lung shot. Ran 200 yards piled up dead. Bullet passed through. 270 yards off of sticks.

Pictures when I can upload

I followed the wildebeest with a stunning kudu

135 yard shot front quartering. Took him thru the right shoulder breaking the spine. Dropped like a truck hit him. Did not recover the bullet

Pics to follow

Nothing wrong with saying who the Safari is, you never know if you talk to them about AH they might become an advertiser and if you are happy with them and write a good review and send it to them who knows what they may offer. Give it a shot, nothing to loose

3 great animals in one afternoon hunting. So far exceeded any expectation that I had.

Took a great blesbuck at 240 yards off sticks .

Rushed the shot and hit him high. God smiles on fools and children. Took his spine out on a pass thru and he dropped like a brick

Pics to follow

enjoying a great steak some great South African wine, and about to have dessert.

Sounds like a good time! Anxious to see the pictures!

Sounds like your off to a great start. Can't wait for our trip next year.

Did you have to recheck your rifle and ammo for the flight to Kimberly? Any issues?

The last time I was through there a couple years ago, yes, and it was U.S. $60 in and $60 out, cash only.

Fellow New Orleanian here! Sounds like you’re having a great start to your trip!

Be safe and shoot straight. Looking forward to pics. Will need to meet up sometime to share a whiskey and stories. Cheers.

For the flight from Johannesburg to Kimberly, you’ll be flying Airlink

You need to let Airlink know ahead of time that you’re flying with rifles and ammo. This is very very important

You’re gonna have to check in your rifles at where you check in for the flights and there’s a form that needs to be filled out. I would try to get it ahead of time to speed up the process.

then you will have to go to the Airlink office, which is right next to a security checkpoint to pay a small service fee and then bring your rifles to security and they will look at your Sap 520 and record data in a logbook that you’ll have to sign. You will leave your rifles there and they’ll get them to the plane.

It’s not a speedy process so allow time for it

I got there at 5 AM for a 7 AM flight. I would not give it less time than that.

And they will seem like it is the first time any of them have seen the forms, and not quite sure what to do or who to ask.... :ROFLMAO: And definitely leave 4 hours or so to leave Jburg. lines took forever in May when we left...

Had a good day today

Kudu that I shot yesterday had 51 inch horns

I shot a beautiful Gemsbuck today at about 150 yards with 36 inch horns. Worked hard for the gems buck. Heavy thickets. We would catch glimpses

Followed him up a couple of hours later with a giraffe. Shot the giraffe in the spine immediately below the head. 93 yards.. it was a shot I’ll never forget. 416 Ruger pushing a 400 grain barnes TSX at 2400 ft./s.

The giraffe fell straight down, like it had been smote by the hand of God. Same sound a tree makes after you cut it down at the base when it hits the dirt.

The outfitter has a spa less than a quarter mile away. Got back to the lodge went and got a 90 minute full body massage. I think I made about 15 minutes before I was snoring on the table.

Oxtail and Cabernet tonight

Doesn’t suck

I think forum prohibits making reference or giving personal references to PH/Outfitters that don't advertise on this forum.

But you can call me. I would be happy to discuss Cape Buffalo .
