So against my better possible resale judgment and local guys’s bitchin’ (including my smiths) I went ahead and got my Ruger no 1 RSI modified to thread on a suppressor….

I appreciate my hearing more than anything, especially having to yell to have a conversation with my grandparents, so I did the unthinkable… “ruin” a perfectly good Ruger no 1 RSI. It’s a 30-06 and is my go to deer rifle so I doubt it’ll ever be sold, and I’m sure now nobody would want to buy it lol.

My smith removed the banded front sight and that gave us enough clearance on the end cap to thread on a sort of coupling/adapter to get the threads out an extra inch to have enough room to thread the suppressor. This was easier and cheaper than having him remove the tip of the stock and refit the end cap. No iron sights now, but hey, I only use scopes anyways. Total cost $300, total value lost due to the modification? Who knows. Total happiness gained from me? Enough to comfort my wallet.

Oh and yea, I did it to my 22 as well…… :)

I don’t begrudge you. Ive thought about bobbing and threading a no1 too. Hearing is indeed important and I love to stalk hunt quiet woods without plugs

Show them with the can on!

The pics look way better than what I was imagining.

I would shoot my No1 more if it were suppressed. It’s a No1S in 300WM and it’s a hoot to shoot except for the blast. I really don’t like shooting anything unsuppressed anymore, so you will get no flack from me. When I was growing up, the rifle in last of the dog men really made me want a full stock rifle.

Can is on its way to me now! Should have it by next week :) I’ll post some updated pics then!

And yes I was happy the way they turned out, my gunsmith did pretty good and charged me what think was a very reasonable amount. He has never done one like this so he had to invest some time in figuring out what to do and how to do it so I’m sure if it was just based off his time he undercharged me by a good amount.

This is my 300 win mag pre modifications. I was happy with the first two so this one is at his shop now to get the same treatment. I love those full length stocks.

If someone wants to put ketchup on their vanilla ice cream or repaint their Ferrari brown, my first instinct is to be respectful of their decision & maybe even try to be empathetic.

Meanwhile, my brain is silently screaming "Nooooo!!!" so loud it's about to give me an aneurysm. ;)

I have a hunting buddy who thinks it's neat to modernize old classic rifles with new technological geegaws. I think he describes intended modifications to me just to see if he can craft an abomination so bad that it'll make me cry a little. You'd think I would be a bit more battle-hardened by now but I do love my RSI just the way it is.

Vive la différence & enjoy your new setup!

PS - Since the local guys & your smith already gave you some grief about your choice, I felt less compunction about piling on. :D

As I had an unsavory woman tell me once, “you do you boo”. Whatever TF that meant.

I love the look of a #1, but I don’t like the RSI much, so…I think it looks better.

Are those scope rings stainless?

All that's left is to buy a couple of colors of Krylon and rattle can you some camo on that bad boy...... :)

Actually I like it and your Smith did a great job. Be proud and enjoy the heck out of that thing!

Beautiful wood. Very well done .
How much blast supression ?
What Silencer did you use ?

When my wife is away I use my .22 and .300BLK with silencers in the livingroom ( just open the back door ) on rainy or cold days. Quite as a church mouse.
Even with a silencer , no way I would do the livingroom stunt with a 300 WinMag
Tv screens cracked, wife’s Knick knacks blown hither and yon , large V shaped burn mark on the rug . You know the usual tell tale signs of a bad decision .

I bought a Vers375 because I wanted to use a suppressor on my 375 H&H as well. I don’t have it in hand quite yet, should have it by the end of next week.
