After few personal encounters with leopard, and after my deeper research, I found out, leopard is probably most difficult DG animal to get.

In order to research deeper into this subject, I created the poll, to get a rough idea on leopard success chances in the community of safari hunters.

It depends on many factors, buy lets see where we are with attempts and successes.

So, How many times you went to Africa to hunt leopard, before you got one?

One and probably not done. First sit, so I feel like I’m missing something. (But it’s definitely not a big ass leopard at the taxidermist)

I checked once and I got him, but it took extra days. After my original 14 day hunt, I didn’t get a leopard. I went to another outfitter for a Cape buffalo and scored late on day one. So I returned to the leopard outfitter and after a few more days I finally got my leopard.

First sit in a leopard blind w Johnny Duplooys in Zambia, 42 minutes in the blind, hunted elephant for 10 days afterward, was perfect as i enjoyed the elephant hunting much more than sitting in a blind

Killed leopard with hounds on Day 5 of my first leopard hunt in Botswana in 2023.

I am very seriously considering leopard over bait after completing other contracted hunts in 2027 and 2028.

Good luck and happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

I killed my first leopard after a couple hours on my very first sit, first safari

I killed my 2nd leopard mid-day on my first day, tracking with Bushmen, on my third safari.

Third time I hunted leopards was on 7th safari. October-November hunt. Very tough conditions, no leopard

Fourth time I hunted leopards was on 8th safari. We killed the leopard a couple hours into first sit, at 8:00 AM.

I probably won’t hunt leopards again anytime soon. I’ve been fortunate to take 3 big Tom’s and there are other things I’d rather hunt going forward. But, you never say never!

I got my leopard on my second safari but it was my first attempt at leopard. I shot my leopard on the 4th sit in the blind. This was in 2011.

My first hunt was cut short by Covid. We spent three days before the alarm came out. I hunted three days in the blind for many hours. I returned dour months later and got him on the first sit. So the fourth day but there were two trips.

First sit. I think I may need to try it again.

I got mine in my 4th hunt in Zim. 3 previous unsuccessfull hunt in Namibia.

My first leopard shown in avatar was taken on day 14 of hunt back in 2021. My second leopard was taken on day 7 of 2024 hunt. Pre baiting and outfitter knowing his area is the key to success. Elephant and buffalo are physical hunts. Leopard is mental……patience and the ability to sit quietly in a blind for hours on end.
