I am sitting in KC awaiting my third flight, this one to Chicago.

Jut finished up a week at Limcroma. This started as a buffalo hunt donation purchase this past year at SCI in Nashville.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the week +. The food was awesome, accommodations were great, tracker and PH super professional, and it was a lot of fun sharing the campfire each evening with other hunters.

Rifles taken:
Parkwest Arms in 416 Rigby, using Swift 400 grain factory ammo.
Blase R8 in 30-06, with a suppressor, using Norma 180 rain factory ammo.

Animals taken:
Cape Buffalo
Golden Wildebeest
Sable

A true pleasure watching /working with our tracker “Lucky”. Simply unbelievable.

Great experience and knowledge from our PH, “Jan”

A few pics to get the tease started. Let’s just say that we hunted hard (5 days) for a buffalo. Lots of stalks, searching for tracks, etc.

Once we found and got on a couple of bulls it became……interesting.

Perhaps it was the “Safety Third” hat :)

Any issues bringing suppressor?

Congrats!! Will be there June 2027. No buffalo though

Awesome buff brother! Who was your ph? Limcroma is a top tier outfitter. Ive thoroughly enjoyed every one of my trips there.

Any issues bringing suppressor?
None at all. Had is listed n my Customs declaration. Checked it comin g back in. 2nd trip, no issues either time.

So here we are on day 5. A great stalk the day before on a couple of buffs. Watch them settle down for a nap at 11AM in some very thick cover.

We backed out, had lunch and took a well deserved break, then back into them at 3 PM.

At just after 5, two of them got up. I'm thinking it "go" time. Nope. Went 25 yards or so and laid back down. No possibility for a shot.

Grass was extremely green and everything heavily vegetated due to the amount of rain they have received.

Move forward to the next morning. Second stalk of the morning, starting around 9:45. Three buff cross a dirt track. Off we go....

Approximately 45 minutes later, (Lucky, tracker) hits the ground like someone pulled his feet out from under him. He crawl back a few feet..."Buff". Apparently three were still together. He saw one and a piece of a second, in some really thick cover 40 yards away. We can just make out the body of the first and an occasional glimpse of horn as he moved his head.

We were determined not to back out this time, but wait for them to stand and give us an opportunity.

Jan (PH) would come up to his knees every minute or so to check on the. After about 45 minutes of sitting in the sun, Jan grabs the sticks and whispers "they're up".

I slowly put the rifle up. He says "take the one on the left". Slightly quartering away. I put the reticle just behind the shoulder looking to send it into the off side shoulder.

At the shot, bull reacts hard. Obviously the off side shoulder is severely damaged.

He takes off with his buddy so there is no opportunity for a second shot.

More to come....:)

Great buff, congrats !

After the shot on the Buff we waited approx. 30 minutes. Lucky takes the lead and off we go. Before long it is very apparent that the R. Front leg is severely injured with the initial shot. Small amounts of blood in the trail. He split off from his two companions. All good signs.

We tracked him in a loop and back into some VERY thick brush. Jan made the correct call at that point to back out as it was too dangerous to go after him in the thicket.

We called another PH that had a Jack Russell to help track him down.

We started at the thicket where we previously stopped. The bull had laid down. More blood in the bedding area. He then made a large loop (approx. 1/2 mile).....right back to the same spot!

As we came back around the dog alerted and the tracker thought he saw something. Jan positioned me to his left, the other PH further left. I want down to my knees to try and see the bull in the thicket.

Right as I saw him, at 31 yards, he came for us. Head down low, full blast. Jan fired two shots from his 500NE, the PH to my left got off two shots from a CZ550 in .375, I got off three shots from the Park West in 416 Rigby. The bull piled up at 9 yards.

To say it was a touch of excitement would be a bit of an understatement!

I moved around the left side and put one more into the spine.

The adrenaline was flowing through everyone!

I asked the tracker to go back to the truck where my wife was waiting, and tell her not to cash the life insurance check quite yet, even though it sounded like WWIII just taken place!

In the pics you can see the scrub brush where he started the charge and where it was finished.
