What did you reload today?

Starting load development on a 300 Super (H&H) I just put together. Started with putting together 3 each of the 180 Accubonds and 180 Partitions with H1000 and H4831SC to see if there is an obvious combo the rifle likes. Also bought some 175 Terminal Ascent but those ended up seated so deep I don't really think that bullet makes sense for the 300 Super.

I realized that if I die, I would leave with a bunch of powders and bullets unused. So I gave myself the project of developing a load for upcoming hunts with components I have on hand. I want to thin the inventory and at the end stick with only a few proven powders and bullets..

So in the last few weeks, I shot :

For this fall Wyoming pronghorn hunt :

- 59 grains of IMR 7828SCC behind a 130 grains Berger VLD Hunting in my Mod 70 Featherweight 270 Win. When seated at 0.040'' off the land, accuracy is about MOA.

- 55 grains of IMR 4451 behind a Hornady 165 grains SST in my Mod 70 Super Grade 30-06. About MOA when seated 0.030'' and 0.050'' off the land.

Tests at 200 yards will decide wich rifle I take with me. Even if I lean toward the Super Grade for his better overall handling.

- For my 2027 Cape Buffalo Hunt, I loaded 74 grains of IMR 4451 behind a Barnes 270 grains TSX in my BRNO ZKK 602 375 H&H. This load gives me 2570 fps. I know some manual listed receipes that push these Barnes around 2700 fps, but my rifle shoots these loads more like patterns, and the bolt lift is a little sticky. This load is MOA but I'll do some seathing depth testing in the next few weeks or so. I'll also test the Nosler 300 grains Partition, as I have about 80 of them on the shelf.

That's it.

Didnt get any reloading done but lucked into the "widow" scenario - a woman from our church approached me at services and asked if I would like any reloading gear. I came home with a new press, several boxes of bullets, primers, scale, powder measures, dies, and all kinds of extra stuff. The downside is a lot of it is for .41 Mag which I do shoot, but she has no idea where the gun is. Based on the components, he shot it a LOT so I'm curious where that one went. Also, didnt find any powder so asked her to keep a look out for it.
Both of these post hit home for me.
I recently lost a good friend and shooting buddy of mine.
His wife has asked me to help sell his collection when she’s ready to do so. Of course I told her yes. Just last week she asked if I wanted his reloading powders. She said it’s the only thing that makes her a little nervous having around. I’ll be picking it up from her in the near future. He and I mostly used the same powders, so it will be put to good use.
She’s at a total loss when it comes to his collection, and it makes me think about my own collection when my time comes.
I’ve always been good about keeping records of what “can go” with each of my firearms, and both my wife and son know a good bit about firearms.
Nonetheless it makes me think about downsizing as I don’t want to leave my family with a mess.
Good Lord willing, I’ll be around for a long time, but there’s no guarantee.
hopefully before I go either my son or one of my nieces of nephews, of I’ll know a younger person who takes up reloading, so I can leave my stuff to them.

Haven’t loaded them yet… but…. I made 260 pieces of once fired 22-250 and 800 pieces of once fired 223 match brass last weekend popping whistle pigs in Montana…

Had a great time shooting the factory loads.. but now it’s time to brew up some match grade hand loads for both rifles… :)

Just finished loading up the 40 pieces of 35 Remington brass I prepped last night.

Might get a chance this week/weekend to load up a bunch of 38 special. I’ve got 500 158 grain lead bullets, sized, lubed and ready to go. I also have 250 lead 125 grain bullets ready to go as well. I’ll probably start cleaning cases tomorrow evening after work.

That’s a bunch of groundhogs man!

Me and 3 other shooters spent half a day on Friday, all day Saturday, and all day on Sunday zapping them.. it was my first time going after prarire dogs and ground squirrels.. we had a blast.. we'd start engaging them with rim fires at the beginning of the morning, and then worked our way out as the close ones were either wiped out or started staying in their holes.. we'd then engage from about 100-300 witht he .223's.. and as those dried up, progressed to 300-500 yards with the 22-250's..

Im pretty hooked.. I can see me making additional future trips for p-dogs..

to spin back toward reloading... p-dogs are where loading for accuracy makes a serious difference.. I was getting about .6 MOA out of my 22-250 using the fiocchi 40gr vmax factory load.. which is excellent in my opinion.. but scale that out to a 400 yard shot and youre talking a 2.4" shot group best case scenario when shooting at a target thats only about 3" wide when standing up.. then factor in wind (wind was all over the place over the weekend.. at times it was very mild.. less than 5 MPH gusts.. at other times it was whipping and well over 20 MPH).. every little bit of accuracy you can squeeze out, and loading bullets that buck wind well become paramount..

Im hoping I can find a 60gr 22-250 load that scoots along fast that my rifle likes that I can get a sub .5 MOA group out of.. if I can pull that off the P-Dogs better look out next year!

I dont know that I can improve my .223 much.. I was shooting 68gr match ammo out of a precision, HB AR15 and getting .6 MOA out of it as well... I might be able to figure out something that gets tighter than .6... but to be honest, getting .6 out of an AR15 I think is pretty impressive and will be hard to beat with the reloading equipment I own..

Try the 60gr Hornady BTSP for your 22-250

Not the sexiest bullet out there but in 22-250 I had excellent accuracy and used it on everything up to feral hogs.

400gr DGX loaded up for the 416 Ruger. I use these for practice and save my Woodleigh’s for hunting. These are almost too shiny lol. I normally don’t dry tumble after loading but these I did. Cheers

Finally after going back and forth and consulting AH great leopard hunting minds I decided to hand load 60 rounds of Swift A Frames in 286 grains with 60 grains of Big Game powder producing 2405 FPS for my Rigby HS in 9.3x62. Finished up today and they are now packed for my August trip!

I have heard this but the manufacturer’s do it so it can’t be that bad. I haven’t had any issue with dry tumbling loaded cases…yet

Did not know, that manufacturers do it..... Where do you have this information from?

Hmm, normally I don’t but have done it a few times with no problems

I’ve seen a YouTube video of a ammunition factory that showed them tumbling ammo in a huge vibratory machine with ceramic media, can’t remember which company it was, would have been several years ago now

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
