I’ll be going on my first archery hunting trip flying with my bow. (Mule deer in California) What hard case would you guys recommend for airlines. I’m more of a buy once cry once as long as the extra money buys quality. Thanks for any input.
Sir,
I used this case to fly from Japan to Johannesburg with no problems. Packed my clothes around my bow for protection and worked fine. Actually the airline counter folks were surprised that it contained archery equipment since it doesn’t look like a “weapon” case at all. SKB cases are excellent hard cases as well, worth looking at also. Hope this helps! Good luck on your hunt!
SKB iSeries 4217-13 Bow Case is the gold standard for a reason. Buy it once, cry once at $350-400, and never worry about your bow again. The Pelican 1755 Bow Case is a close second, but the SKB has better interior configuration for most compound bows.
If the axle to axle length allows. I prefer the soft sided wheeled bow/clothing cases. Kuiu, Sitka, Badlands. Try to find a no longer made (Badlands Terraglide). Your bow will come out with all the other luggage instead of being sent to a special room with the firearms.
It Won’t stand out and be searched by some knucklehead, then putting it back in
incorrectly.
I've had a SKB case for years for my Mathews compound bow and it's a great case. For those not too familiar with SKB, they make all sorts of protective cases for musical instruments, golf clubs, rifles, bows, etc.
After a couple of trips over there with a bow I prefer a rolling duffle. Ive used a SKB hard case in the past and it protected the bow well, but like others have said you might encounter it being set aside with the firearms at the airport. Also mine was also misplaced or delayed a couple of times and cost me a few days of hunting. I have since switched to the Sitka Nomad and have had zero issues.
I dont think they even know there is a bow in there.
I use the SKB Ultimate Double Bow Case. The storage area on the bottom is very handy and makes keeping your arrows and accessories plus tools organized/packed.
iSeries 4719 converts from single to double bow case. Features include foam divider and accessory tray, UV and impact resistance. Ultimate bow case for your needs.
I've got an SKB double bow case and it has served me quite well. I have put a bow on one level and clothes on the other, or bow and rifle, or bow, some clothes and sundries. Did not fail me on two trips to South Africa and I think one of my trips to Namibia.
