375 Remington Ultra Mag

I would do 250 CX's ripping fast for everything that isn't dangerous.

For everything that is dangerous I would do 300 Swifts.

Just put a Salmon River Solutions or a Muzzle Brakes and More brake, 5 port titanium and it will be a joy to shoot. If it is giving you head aches, you need a brake. I used to have a 375 Rum and after firing 13, 300 grain loads off the bench, it injured my neck, so I put a brake on it.

I had American Hunting Rifles build me one about 10 years ago as a one gun battery where dangerous game is hunted in more open country. It's been on three safaris to Burkina Faso, Masailand and the Moyowasi in Tanzania. It's a hammer, literally, on both ends. Have had excellent results using Barnes TSX and Swift A-Frame bullets.

Here is a Moyowasi buff. Dropped with one shot, second for insurance.

Burkina savannah buff. One shot kill.

I really like the cartridge. Won't replace the classic H&H version I own but an option I'm glad I have in my possession. The biggest issue with the round is finding the "right" factory ammunition at times.

I shoot an HS Precision in 375 RUM, (switch barrel kit with 300 RUM)

I took it to Cameroon in ‘16 and performed flawlessly on Lord Derby Eland and Western Buffalo.

My initial shot on the LDE was at a short distance. The bull took the hit on the right shoulder and turned and came towards us.

I reloaded and fired as he passed at 6 yards. I recall seeing his body physically pushed from the shot.

That was impressive, I guess I need to pull it out of the safe for the next Safari.

Gday wyofox
Whats your go to bullet and speed for the 375 rum?
Really depends on the situation I’m using it for

Here’s a few
For small deer in close thick cover or teaching new to the 375rum I like the hammer 137gr SH @4220MV
Which will be replaced with the 235 Speer hotcor once I use them up as I’ve got no confidence in hammer alloy these days but this hotcor load also can be used on hogs & still a good option for the new to the rum @3200mv

The next one I use for longrange work is the 350 Sierra MK@2670 MV ( I don’t shoot longrange much these days & mostly 400 & in now )

My overall pill for many bigger species including buff is one I seem to just keep coming back too is the ceb 275raptor@3020 MV as the consistency of that product on a failure rate is the lowest of anybrand ( seen better impact to tip ratio but sadly that pill is no longer made ) & has the greatest penetration which suits me as I like exits

But I’m hoping that will change soon as I’ve got in transit around 1000 projectiles in 2 brands ( apex&mcguire , McGuire I’m not sure on exact numbers but apex I’ve got 500 ) that in 6.5&30 cal they have been able to earn the top tier on what I look for a bullet to do & one I hope they can replicate what those smaller calibers have done but time will tell as I go about putting them into critters on various angles & resistances

I overall look @ a pills strengths & weaknesses & the bases they cover for the situation/s ahead which I will use other brands or dual loads if I need or the situation is there for that pill to cover the bases better but man alive I’m hoping I can get a one pill & done ? which is a really tall task imo but test i will & see what way it turns out

Hope that is of some use & not to confusing as my writing skills sux sorry
Cheers

WOW!!!! That must be like hitting a small deer with a plasma cutter.
Plasma cutter I love that
I have a few of those over the years but in other combos , surprisingly not so much the 137SH out of the rum .
It’s a very good combo that absolutely flattens them pretty well
Here’s about the worst shot one could get & history has shown on these types of shots we haven’t lost any critter ( not promoting gut shooting @ all but it’s nice to cover when it doesn’t go as we anticipate)

Here’s my mates first fallow stag & he got buck fever for sure gut shooting it as per this pic which totally flattened him & following pics show the internal damage

Pill ended up in back ham as per these pics below & note not much meat damage but hydraulic pressure is huge on this combo & that’s what’s doing serious terminal work well was on original hammers today’s don’t do this sadly hence why I’m moving to different brands

The one to be careful on these types of extreme lightweight pills is if you are up against a critter of higher resistance or a longer penetration requirement to get to vitals as they will struggle to kill efficiently

I also did some work for a zoo with extremely tight tolerances on penetration abilities & still needed to kill like this combo does across a few critters that was very challenging to say the least but eventually got it done & settled on a 121 gr pill for some of those specific critters but that was for a h&h & heavier more traditional for other critters

I enjoy finding out what a pill is capable of , basically it’s strengths & weaknesses are one we can better utilise to our requirements if we can get past the part of just a dead critter as nearly all pills will do that although some critters do recover( rare though ) & some take Minutes, hours , days , weeks to die where I like seconds to instant

oh here’s one I assume you are relating to a plasma cutter?
