I shot the bear w a 9.3x62. First time with that round. It was a jackhammer of death. I have a .375 H&H, but I lust after the 9.3.
Pannonvad out of Budapest. I have hunted three times with them. Each experience has been better than the last, and that’s saying something. In 2024, we hunted two CiC gold medal stags. I’m not sure how Antal, the head of Pannonvad works his magic, but he seems to know everyone, everywhere. Pannonvad is considered one of the best, if not the best, outfitter in Hungary. I have found that to be true, too, in Romania. I used a borrowed rifle in Transylvania. We used Norma ammo. I don’t recall the specifics but the 9.3 was a simply awesome round.Congratulations, Sounds like you had an amazing adventure. Curious what outfitter you used and also what ammunition?
Yes, this was for my hunt in Hungary. Worst booking agent ever!I am not sure I understand where this happened? Previous post was for Hungary? So, was it in Hungary - as reply to that post, or in Croatia, as per subject of the thread?
For Croatia: most of "outfitters" are middle men. Basically hunting agents, because hunting clubs rarely advertise. So agents jump in and conect the hunter to managing operator in the local hunting area
But there are some who advertise and offer hunts on their hunting owned areas - direct contacts.
If you need recommendation for Croatia, drop me PM.
Never mind, I just read furtherI leave on Wednesday for a bear hunt in the Fagaras Mountains in Transylvania. Will share what I learn.
Will be able to tell you after this coming April.

Me too!I have really been looking forward to this particular hunt report.
The last hunt I saw in Romani cost as much as going to Alaska, which turned me offI have an outfitter I use in Slovenia, but I can not seem to get a tag nailed down.
Every year he promises me a bear, and ever year too many get killed by farmers or on the highway and there is no bear.
Slovenia is the cheapest option if you can get to the point of having an actual bear hunt.
This hunt in Romania sounds amazing.
Check also Croatian costs. Annual quota for brown bear is steady at around 130 bears taken per year. The last hunt I saw in Romani cost as much as going to Alaska, which turned me off
