Thanks for posting this. This kind of information is really helpful for my trip planning.LOTS OF "SPECIALITY" ITEMS DROVE THE COST UP BUT IT WAS MY GRANDAUGHTERS FIRST TRIP TO AFRICA SO MY SON DIDN'T CARE.
Me either, I just got lucky!MUCH APPRECIATED, SORRY I AM NOT BETTER ON THE COMPUTER
I’m happy for you, but that invoice reaffirms my decision to abandon Taxidermy!LOTS OF "SPECIALITY" ITEMS DROVE THE COST UP BUT IT WAS MY GRANDAUGHTERS FIRST TRIP TO AFRICA SO MY SON DIDN'T CARE.
Did you get a freight rate to ship all of this?LOTS OF "SPECIALITY" ITEMS DROVE THE COST UP BUT IT WAS MY GRANDAUGHTERS FIRST TRIP TO AFRICA SO MY SON DIDN'T CARE.View attachment 753139
I agree on shoulder mounts that they are creeping up to some US prices. One trend I notice is pricing on African taxidermy is really starting to creep towards US pricing.
Shoulder mounts in Africa have become almost in line with US taxidermy. Often if cheaper, about $100 cheaper.
Skull mounts are often more expensive than I could have done locally.
Full size mounts are still, usually, significantly cheaper.
Tanning is usually about the same or a bit cheaper.
At a certain point with the increased cost of shipping on a much larger crate(s), it's going to be cheaper to ship home and have them done.
Timewise, Africa still wins the vast majority of the time. Typically they are getting them done much quicker than in the US.
NOT YET. WAITING FOR THEM TO PACK. WILL POST.Did you get a freight rate to ship all of this?
It’s gonna be a big one! I can’t even imagineDid you get a freight rate to ship all of this?
Well saidCongratulations on a great hunt and memories that will last your daughter a lifetime.
I agree with @Sabre prices in Africa are climbing significantly from Pre-COVID to present. I’m sure some of this is inflation, but some of it is also supply in demand and South Africa learning what costs are in America and realizing they can charge more. Same with increase in trophy fee prices.
That said, Life-Form is one of the best and most reputable taxidermy studios in South Africa. Their rates rival and even exceed most US Shops. I’d argue the quality of their African Game taxidermy is better than a majority US taxidermists, especially the average taxidermist that does mostly whitetail and a few birds each year. There are definitely exceptions to this; Conroe Taxidermy, Phil Soucy, Brush Country, Woodbury, Safari Studios, B&B, Northeast, etc.
