Mexico warning and heads- up

@BGGMKLR, frustrating isn’t it. Giving people straight up information, then ending up in debate. I used to go to a large Mex border town practically every weekend. Sometimes driving, many times simply walking in. That desire ended in the 80s. Small time, soft corruption is common in many if not most third world countries including all Africa. But once that evolves into full scale internal civil war where Gov and LE loses control to criminal gangs… that’s it, I’m done with that. I’ve no interest in visiting Mexico or even any large city in the US. Last time in LA was creepy. SFO wasn’t so much creepy as sad- I had the feeling it was dying. Phoenix now feels like a small LA. There are many other visit/travel destinations, including international, that are not culturally sick or dying. But, I too am done with advising, recommending destinations and debating adults on the subject.
Well said.

But they don't put that on the websites or brochures.

lol our fishing group that went to the Baja was just sent a email that everything is open and fine between La Paz and the Del Cabo airport. I just have to take that with a grain of salt because, well because the guys trying to get home from their combo Duck & bass trip got about the same form letter from their outfitter before they left
Exactly. Several social media sites are being flooded with "all clear" messages. When the truth has a seriously negative impact on your bottom line...lie...and "tell em what they wanna hear".

I am on the border quite frequently, last Wednesday lots of cross border traffic was coming out of the Laredos.

I don’t cross any longer, and have not for the past 15 years as I was advised by law enforcement not to cross. Laredo, Eagle Pass and Del Rio.

I used to go to Mexico frequently for vacations.

That changed when I made a number of friends in the K&R industry and they advised me just how dangerous that country is. They are professional risk evaluators and were very clear it was one of the most dangerous countries in the world to visit.

But they don't put that on the websites or brochures.
One of the guys fishing with us in Brazil was HIGH up in CAT's engine manufacturing, he has to go to Mexico to inspect facilities and quality control procedures.

Said he HATES going there because the manufacturing facilities are in the NON tourist areas and they have to change hotels nightly and have a $10mil kidnapping insurance policy on him before he enters Mexico.

A good friend married a Mexican national from Acapulco and they DO NOT VISIT!

Acapulco is known as a tourist area but the local police station has severed heads placed on it's door step on a regular basis.

I would love to go to Mexico, but I’m not going anytime soon.

There are some folks I know around here who go regularly. They tell me it’s all good because they know the right people.

I don’t want to be in a place where my life hangs on knowing the right people. What happens when one of the right people changes how they feel about you??

I traveled to Mexico for work and pleasure from the early 70's into the late 90's many times a year. Only have been there a few times after 9/11. After retiring in 2008 I see no reason going there at all any more.

Previous posts are exactly why buddy and I went with Ripcord for SA safari this summer instead of Global Rescue. Travel agent advised Ripcord over GR. If GR won't get you out in the middle of a narco-war when would they get you out? I have had GR in the past but never again. Shame on them!

@Global Rescue is a member. It would be interesting to hear their perspective on all of this negativity. I’ve used them on my previous safaris, but this Mexico business may change that.

  • Security Protection – Many providers’ evacuation services are medical-specific. Global Rescue’s membership security upgrade provides advisory and evacuation services for non-medical emergencies, like a government evacuation order, an unpredicted natural disaster, civil unrest or an act of terrorism.
I am very disappointed that GR sent out that statement, about this not meeting their requirements for evacuation, as I’m sure the families and company’s that provided /paid those extra riders for valued employees and loved ones,
I bought my policy from GR because they didn’t have a minimum distance limit from home for air ambulance service, but I will be rethinking my policy renewal

Global Rescue is not actively evacuating people from Mexico, as the current situation has not met their threshold for services, according to spokesperson Bill McIntyre. While they provide medical evacuation for members, they are not engaged in evacuations”

I never left or lost anything in Mexico that was worth going back for....Kind of like the same for Russia.

I talked to a couple people today who have employees and bosses , family stuck in Mazatlan Mx, and cant get out, one guy was really down on global rescue travel insurance because his new son in law has a policy and GR said

, I maintain a policy with them but would be ripped with infuriating anger if on a foreign country fishing/ hunting trip and civil war or unrest required emergency assistance and was brushed aside.
Maybe Mexican airspace is closed?
I’m still an advocate for having ripcord or GR for medical use but I think I will be checking my policy upgrade on civil unrest & terrorism !
Has anyone ever had an experience where an evacuation was needed?
Just got word back from one guy

“”We just talked to our daughter and SIL, they are finally boarded on their flight home and it should take off soon. Driving to the airport she said they had armed guards with them on their transport along with guards in escort vehicles. She was also saying there were armed national guards throughout the airport. We will be glad when they land on US soil.””

Sure would have seemed right if they would have come to their own defense.

Or when the "right people" become the wrong people because of who they are affiliated with!

All it takes is for some illiterate cartel employee deciding your watch or wallet is worth more than your life; happens all the time that cartels kill their own employees for making bad decisions..... you don't want to be one of those bad decisions!

I’ve been at the Montage in Cabo since Monday with no problems in Baja. Hope everyone in PV stays safe but it looks like things are getting back to normal.

I think this was all in response to the drone incursion that occurred in Texas a few weeks ago. Can’t mess with USA air space and I think the administration told Mexico take him out or we will.

What is happening now, particularly in places like Sinaloa and Jalisco (which is PV's backyard), is a fragmentation of the cartels. When the "old bosse get extradited or killed, the younger cells fight for the turf.

That has not begun, currently this is just push back or “retaliation” for taking out the boss.

I’m sure the internal power struggle will show its self shortly.

What Spike said was very informative. The other comment re: the travel ins. co. lol I have Clients that had to sue (or threaten to sue via counsel) their long-time ins. co. for coverage in clear claim cases. They care about $ NOT You or your fam! (One of the most profitable businesses on Earth: Holding Co. Takes your money, invests most, pays employees/bonuses, limits the amount of claims paid. I understand fraud drives the prices up too, but that can be limited by shrewd decision-making in the beginning (background checks!) 'Know plenty that were evacuated while in the Peace Corps, in Africa (Not many in places you'd want to hunt, but some!) The UN and Peace Corps had the backing to get 'em OUT!

So what your saying is that after the public temper tantrum is over with we can look forward to months of back and forth reprisal killings?

Good luck to those of you looking for sunny beaches and cheap destination weddings!

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?
