Hell Folks
Looking for some advice as I wanted to carry my suppressor for my upcoming hunt to RSA in next few months, looking at some options to get my rifle permit etc, came to find out suppressors are banned in RSA for hunting purposes too.

Looking for some advice as this will be my first time trying to take it there for my wife to use it for our hunt. As I know a lot of you folks have traveled with them there.

Where is this information coming from? I’d be more concerned leaving and returning to US with suppressor and staying fully within the law. I was unaware of any issues bringing to South Africa. They are widely used for hunting there. Just arrange for your outfitter to buy one for you or use one of theirs on your rifle. They definitely aren’t banned for hunting.

I did a quick search and saw no such ban.
I am thinking you received bad intel.
Edit:
Put the suppressor on a 4457 no problems coming or going in the US.
Take a copy of your tax stamp just in case.
Never heard of anybody’s tax stamp being asked for.

And for what it’s worth, they are very cheap to buy there. It’s over the counter, pretty much any gun shop probably has them. They were around $200 and up where we looked in Elliras, Limpopo area
Yea they are cheap and unregulated. The problem is the thread pitch metric vs standard.

Following.

On my RSA trip in 2024, no issues with my suppressor, listed it on the 4457 and had copies of Tax Stamp and Gun Trust paperwork.

Heading to BOT and RSA in May, planning on taking a suppressor, haven't heard of any changes on traveling with a suppressor.

The place we looked at suppressors had about every thread you could possibly want. They had several in 1/2” and a few in 5/8”. They had one I really wanted that was a cool design. Part extended back over barrel instead of extended from end out. Kept gun shorter. They also had several caliber/diameter specific for each thread size. It was fun going to that shop. It’s probably a good thing the wife was with me, it would have been an expensive stop….

Suppressors are definitely not banned for hunting purposes in RSA.
Imperial thread is available; I just bought a Fryer & Devik with 5/8"*24 thread.

where did you get that info? Just got this morning info from Henry at Rifle Permits and he said do not forget to put you suppressor serial number on tour 4457 form if there was an issue he would know. 3 years in a row no issues taking my suppressor in and out of the U.S. or Africa and will this coming Sept will again. In fact your PH will be happy to see you have one. Did you get that info from ATF in Atlanta because they keep denying applications on some people and approve on others, in fact 2 years in a row they approved mine and turned my friends down, I no longer send in a form to them.

I traveled last August and hunted with my own can. I did not put it on the 4457, just my rifle was on there. I did take a copy of my Stamp, and as far as I can tell, the only ones that care about it are the ATF. Take a direct flight to and from JNB, we used United out of Newark and had no issues coming or going. Customs did not care about them at all, just wanted to verify serial number on the rifle.

You can take them with no issues. Have them on 4457. I don’t think I’ve even had to pull mine out of the case in RSA. US considers them a firearm so I make sure to have them on 4457 to show it has been checked in the states before I left for my trip. Then there is no question as if I had purchased it abroad and trying to bring it back.
Tax stamp would probably be fine as well but could be more of a hassle

I have not heard of ANY issues with taking suppressors into SA with proper paperwork. Not all African countries allow that of course but SA has been no problem. I would be surprised if there are not already suppressors in camp owned by the locals. I would put them on a 4457.

There is no such ban that I can find. RSA sporting shops throughout the country sell cans.

Saying they are banned in RSA for hunting is definitely false information. They are easier to buy over there than in the US.

If you mean they are banned for you to take your own over for hunting. This also seems false based on how many people have done it. But in that area there is at least gray area based on what people say you need to travel with them. There are many different opinions on what exactly you need to travel with them.

Regardless, it definitely seems like the US Govt. cares a lot more about it than RSA. If you decide to take your own, I would be aware of what airports you are connecting through in the US as some cities and states are very unfriendly toward them and guns in general.

Thank you all for your valuable support and advice, this information came from one of the services my wife was working with in RSA for our firearms, after looking at your responses I believe I should look for some other options to work with as clearly what was shared with her is not the correct information.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
