Favorite movies set in Africa

My not so 100% list.

Some what in order:

1. Hatari. Best movie with John Wayne in it, not necessarily Wanes best movie. I was partial to Brandy
2. Blended (an Adam Sandler Drew Barrymore love flick), actually very funny
3. God's must be crazy
4. gods must be crazy 2 (probably a more funny movie)
5. Animals are Funny People
6. Funny People (never seen the 2nd one of these, but I really like Jamie Uys.
6. White Hunter Black Heart Eastwoods best movie
7. Ghost in the Darkness is ok, I loved it as a kid. Val Kilmer is great everyone else is kind of ok.
8. Out of Africa is tops, but I like a comedy and this is a pretty good Drama. She was really good looking back then.

Hatari is my favorite by a long shot. It's why I started hunting with Jan Oelofse Hunting Safaris.
Haha, yep. I hunted with them this past April. Took a problem bull elephant on the fly. Their history with Hollywood is something special!

My sentimental favorite has to be Hatari!. I was 8 years old when the movie came out. My mother took me to see it. Years later, she once told me that I kept talking about the pretty woman in the movie for days after seeing the movie. Apparently, I had a boyhood crush on Elsa Martinelli.:giggle:

I'm also partial to a "home movie" by Robert Ruark.

Robert Ruark Safari Hunting
video posted to YouTube on Dec 10, 2017

description: "Filmed in 1954. [?] Narrated and featuring Robert Ruark. Harry Selby and Andrew Holmberg guide Ruark to a 110 pound elephant. Black rhino, leopard, and a huge 49 inch buffalo are taken as well as other species. This is a chance to see what a safari in British East Africa was like during this era."

Harry Selby and Robert Ruark

"There is a bloody brave little animal in Africa called the honey badger. It may be the meanest animal in the world. It kills for malice and for sport, and it does not go for the jugular - it goes straight for the groin. It has a hell of a lot in common with the modern American woman."
from The Honey Badger (1965) by Robert Ruark

Cheers! Bob F. :)
Yes Hatari is a huge favorite of mine also; casting and storyline are superb. Elsa Martinelli; hell I was in love when she ran out of the lodge in her underwear!

While not a movie per se, the first season of 1923 has a lot of content set in Africa and it is terrific. I bet one enterprising person could stitch together just the African subplot into a decent length video.
I agree the Africa part of 1923 was very good. Made a point to mention some very historical aspects of safari history. I wish they would do a prequel to 1923 with him in Africa before he meets his love interest.

She definitely got my attention!

I agree with Hatari. I researched the movie and thought it so cool Hardy Kruger bought the movie farm and lived there yet so very sad the actress that played Brandy took her own life in her 30’s

Yes very sad I had forgotten about that.

My top two:
Out of Africa
Ghost and Darkness

Then all other movies you guys mentioned.

We've always loved Hatari not just for John Wayne but also for the game capture aspect of it. It was reality TV before there was such a thing! Nothing like watching some Africa themed movies before a safari.
