Any of you fine gents have much experience with the Recknagel mounts for the double bridge M98 used by Rigby or Mauser themselves?

Will be mounting a scope shortly on a 416 Rigby and the rifle came with the mounts. I can’t find instructions online anywhere, including Recknagel. My main question relates to the rear ring/mount with the G9-Plus locking mechanism. The ring is somewhat loose to the mount and some play, so thinking the screw affixing the bottom half of the ring to the mount is loose, but cannot say for certain it’s not intended to be. Can’t imagine it’s designed that way, but assumptions breed error, so figured smart to ask if anyone with actual experience with these knows or has a screen shot of the instructions.

Any input/assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi

I am using Recknagel mounts on nearly every gun.

The G9 Plus locking mechanism is always extremely tight, there is no loose part.

That's a pdf file from their website. It's for the H7, but maybe it helps...

Thank you for responding. I did search over their website (saw the above pdf) and general internet searches well before posting here. Really posted because I couldn’t find direction anywhere, and the literature I did find on differing models only seemed to highlight how particular they can be…

The whole … “Improper handling can cause damage’ and you are better off having a taxidermist

Hi Wildwillalaska,
Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue?
I ask because I recently changed the rings on my G9 Plus mount on my Merkel L961. I think I have the same issue as you describe above. After closer inspection it appears that the stud on the bottom of the lower ring half on my old rings is 8mm. The same part on the new rings are 7mm. I too have some play in the lower ring half when it sits in in mount baseplate. I am thinking maybe at some stage Recknagel changed the diameter of this stud, and anyone buying new rings for older pivot mounts might have an issue. I don’t know this for sure, hence why I asked if you found a solution or if you have any further information you could share?

My issue proved to be someone loosing the set screw for some reason. It was as easy as tightening/torquing it back up, but total PIA to do while making certain it was dead-nuts true square. The design makes it impossible to do simply, it was more of using scope or lap jig to ensure square, then snug down, then remove and recheck, snug some more, remove and recheck. Had zero confidence in them by the time I was finished…but has worked flawlessly since. I’ve removed and remounted the scope dozens of times now between travel and even mid-range sessions all with absolute return to zero. So quite pleased with the base/rings combo…just don’t go loosening locked screws on a whim.

I see, a completely different issue to mine.
Thankyou for the reply.
