I was a bit fearful regarding this gun in the beginning. I still don’t know the real story but I feel a lot better knowing you bought it from Kirby Hoyt. He’s known legitimate and has the gauges to accurately measure what he sells. By reputation, I don’t believe you have a safety concern.
I still question whether it is a live pigeon gun rather than a higher grade fowling gun, but it seems good either way and the LOP is fantastic.
Did he publish the minimum wall diameter, choke, and chamber specs in the original ad?
I’m trying to sort through what proof marks indicate versus what Kirby said it is versus what you may perceive it to be. (Any of the 3 could be true, or all 3)
I’m also trying to figure out what’s not so good about it because it seems like you paid considerably less than it’s worth. Things that injure value to some extent would be the weight, if it’s out of proof, or if it’s stocked with a comb for pigeon shooting where it’s oriented really for rising shots. Only being out of proof is really a major detriment if it shoots well and it fits you.
if it really is proofed nitro for 1-1/4 ounce and it has longer chambers, coupled with its weight, it would be a great gun for sporting clays and long pokes at roosters.
