Why does it seem like there are no reviews or very little information out for this gun. I know it's new for this year, but one would think that you would want to get more info out beside just the info page on the company website.

Is it a simplified version of the regular Chapuis Elan, ie better pricing? They do seem to be quite similar aside from engraving.

Hello, @Chill645 - please let me know what questions you have about the Iphisi (or any other Chapuis model). BTW, depending on where you are, we are having two Chapuis gala events (free to the public), one on the 22nd of this month at the NYC Beretta gallery, the other on the 29th at the Dallas Beretta gallery. There will be many gun writers, some of whom very well known (e.g., Boddington, Steele, etc.) and people will be able to see and hold Chapuis guns--rifles and shotguns. I will bring my sample Iphisi.

As @KJE81 said, the Iphisi is based on the Elan (i.e., the large action double rifle). The main differences are a shorter, trimmer forend, a colorcase receiver with border engraving, and the fact that the rib is machined to accept Talley rings instead of Recknagel. .375 H&H only--and at a price-point of $9,999 MSRP. Flip-up night sight, 26" barrels, 3-leaf express sight, grade-3 Circassian walnut with English-style cheekpiece, ejectors, manual safety, double triggers. Fully dressed it weighs around 10lbs. Regulated with 300gr Hornady DGX.

To be honest, the Iphisi is my favorite of all Chapuis offerings. It really came out great and it's starting to ship at the end of September.

Feel free to answer or PM me with any more questions you may have.

I guess one of my question is why there not much if any I guess YouTube reviews or showcases showing it off. I mean I see quite a few for Elan.

Thanks to Tom Leoni for the post above. As a lot of folks on AH know, I'm a big fan of Chapuis double rifles and love my 375 H&H. It's the Brousse model and about 12 years old. Been on 4 safaris and it's sweet to shoot. Good to know about the event at the Dallas Beretta Gallery. I will put it on my calendar. Is it an all day event or a specific time?

Thanks for the kind words about Chapuis, @chashardy - the event runs from 5 to 8 PM. It will be a lot of fun and if you attend, please come and introduce yourself! Looking forward to it!

@freefall - the Iphisi is a price-point rifle and .375 is the least expensive chambering for medium-large bores (save for the 9.3x74R, which thanks to its dimensions and lower pressure fits in a 28-gauge shotgun action--RGEX or UGEX models available on special order). .450-400 and .470 are available in the Elan model, which starts in these calibers at $13,999 MSRP.

The Iphisi is positioned to be a viable choice if you want to trade up to a modern, trouble-free double rifle, easily scoped, and chambered for an easy-to-find cartridge with which you can hunt pretty much any game in the world. The inspiration was from John Taylor's chapter on the "All Around Rifle" in his African Rifles and Cartridges. As I said above, I am mightily pleased with how it came out, especially at that price point. Definitely a rifle that punches way above its weight--both in the performance and looks departments.

@Chill645 - if you go on the Chapuis USA Web site and look up US-based dealers (I assume you are in the USA), the ones that have a blurb (Elite level dealers) can special order any model made by Chapuis, including the Super Orion. The way it works is that they contact me, I price it out and give an ETA. If this is acceptable to the client, we put in the order. The folks in France are passionate hunters and sterling people who are always true their deadlines--and I consider managing their line in the USA to be an absolute honor and pleasure.

Why did they opt to name it Iphisi? That is isiZulu / Nguni for a spotted hyena?

Looks like this could be a really good time to offer AH.com members a special deal or even military discount. :) I live in OKC and really need to see one in the flesh.

Concur pics would be nice. Thanks Mac. I feel the need for my first double - first Africa trip complete and can tell this going to get expensive. Next trip planned

@Kevin Peacocke - darn! I would have loved to do it, but I have just today shipped my sample to the NY Beretta gallery. I will be able to take it back in about 2 weeks. By then there will be many more units in the country--some of which will end up in the hands of writers. I will be sure to post some pictures of it as soon as I can! :)

No problem Tom, there are some nice pictures on the Chapuis web site.

@Kevin Peacocke was your 375 Flanged a Chapuis? If so, would you endorse them in the future as a maker? Did you get reasonable support? (Apologies if your gun's maker was another, couldn't recall if VC or Chapuis)

I found some... Not as detailed as I would like, but this is all I have besides the images on the Web site.

And here are a couple I had snapped earlier this year (I have since replaced the scope).
