For The Man Who Has Everything!! .600 NE Anyone? Not Mine

If its truly a Daniel Fraser action its worth a bundle, even if just for the action. Agree, it is an ego gun, overpowered for the frame, underweight to make it a practical shooter.

A new production POS.
I owned one of the last vintage Jeffery single shots in .600. Way too light at 11 pounds for the recoil. After two shots I sold it. Friends said to load it down. Hell, why buy a .600 if you shoot .450 loads through it? Just to say one owns a .600?
Got to disagree with you Cal on not "loading down." I own several "big guns" up to and including a muzzleloading 7 bore, two ML 8 bores, and a 500 A-Square, plus others. I shoot them all with less than full bore loads because they are fun to shoot that way. Why beat yourself up for no reason? And why then own them? Because they are neat guns to own. And yes, I do occasionally light off full loads for perspective.

Regarding comments on being "over priced," get serious. I am familiar with the maker and also others who build similar custom big bore single shots. The current bid is probably one "zero" short of replacement cost.

I keep looking at this gun because I’m conflicted between loathing it immensely and appreciating what it is. I think I figured out what to do with it, assuming it goes for about $2500-$2800, maybe $3000.

1.) Put an orange pad on it.
2.) Bore out the barrel and cut rifling for 20 bore slug. I believe chamber, bore, and barrel will all clean up to 20 gauge.

In the end, you’d have a very elegant, proper weight gun for hunting in slug-only states.

I thought about the other options, including making it a 450-400 3”, or a 375HH, or a 404J, but all those scenarios require you to throw away the barrel and start over. A new quarter rib, ramp, barrel band, barrel, and the labor to install and finish would be $2500 or more. Math won’t work, but the 20 bore absolutely would for a lot less, south of $1000 I would wager.

*Postscript: The bore is .005” too big for a 20 gauge and the rim is too big. So the plan won’t work after all. A rebore and rechamber to 12 gauge is about the only option I could think of for reasonable money.

From the reading I've done, a 600NE usually weighs 14-15 lbs + or -. That being said, done carefully I think you could add at least 3 lbs to the rifle via molten lead poured into a couple copper pipes epoxied in the butt.

Or go all out with pure tungsten rod and drill even smaller holes.

The rifle in question should not be messed with other than as suggested, some wt added in the butt stock. Check out "Addenix II: Practice Loads with 5744 Powder" in Terry Wieland's Dangerous Game Rifles. I use this reduced load system in all my big nitro guns. So, just for giggles, I checked out the system using some 600 brass and 900gr solids I have in stock. The case will hold approximately 130 gr of 5744 with said bullet seated to max o/a cartrdge length (3.680). Using Wieland's (and other's) system, a starting load would be 52 gr (40% of 130). One could go all the way to 84.5 at 65%, but then why. You are already sending 900 grs of metal down range with consequences at both ends. Just member Mr. Newton's law of physics!

Is that a knurled safety lever in front of the trigger and inside the trigger guard? Could that possibly pose some risk in contacting the trigger finger during recoil?

I think just shooting it ONCE will possibly pose some risk for detaching a retina, nevermind your trigger finger? LOL

I read an older thread that mentioned you having some 9.3x64 brass. Do you still have some? I am looking for 100 pcs, maybe 200.
