Qatar Airways

Gotcha. Thank you all for the replies. I booked with miles and did not use a travel agent. I did use riflepermits.com for the pre-approval permit. I have multiple copies of form 4457, letter of invitation, SAPS form, and passport so should be good to go!

Hey everyone. I am leaving for my first safari this upcoming thursday 9/2. I am bringing a rifle. I emailed the special services Qatar email with the documents back on July 12. I received an email back stating:
"Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Qatar Airways.
We have forwarded your documents to our airport staff for review.
As a general rule, Qatar Airways will accept firearms and ammunition as checked baggage under the following conditions:
• Upon check in, you must present the documents accrediting the approval of the movement of the firearm from the States of origin, transit (if applicable) and destination.
• You will have to sign the Declaration of Surrender of Firearms upon check in; the weapon must be unloaded. If possible, the weapon should be dismantled and packed inside a suitcase or gun case
• The maximum gross weight of the ammunition must not exceed 5 kg per passenger. The ammunition must be securely packed in a sealed and strong wooden, metal, or fiberboard box and must be packed inside a suitcase with other contents. The suitcase containing the ammunition must not bear an “explosive” label. The weapon or ammunition must not be stowed in the cabin or in any area accessible during the flight
• No guarantee of confirmation or acceptance will be provided until the time of check in as physical inspection of the firearm by Qatar Airways staff at the airport.
Thank you for choosing Qatar Airways,
"

I then sent a follow up email on August 16 to make sure they received everything they needed and that I would be good to go and they sent the same email as above. They did not ask me about weight or ammo weight. Should I be good to go with the response above or do I need to call?

Anyone else leaving DFW to DOh 9/2 at 7 pm?
I am sure you will be fine. As always be at the ticket counter early and have your 4457 and several copies of the Declaration of Surrender filled out but not signed.

You need several copies of Qatar’s Declaration of Surrender of Firearms filled out but not signed.

Where do you get a copy of this form? I went here but see no sign of it.

Thank you!

I’m sitting in the lounge in Doha as we speak, awaiting a connecting flight to JNB. Check in at JFK was quite hectic and took 2 hours to get the rifles checked in. Qatar staff had no idea as to the process and both Qatar and CBP were hung up on us needing temp export permits from ATF. After some kind education of both, we were at our gate to be called up by CBP again to discuss the matter. We ultimately made it through with our rifles, but they really had no idea what their own process was.

Qatar flight was extremely pleasant for a 12.5hr economy haul. Good and service were both excellent.

FYI for those flying Business Class on Qatar with Qsuite seating. I flew over in the forward facing seat. Came back in rearward facing seat.
I am a big guy and found the forward facing seat was more comfortable and had more room to me. I will choose the forward seats from now on.
Agreed. Some wish to be closer to the window in the rearward facing seats But not me. Next flight will be rearward facing but that is because I’ll be in the middle with my sweetie!
