Hi folks,

what are people using as a non - lead bullet for the 9.3x62?

Quarry would be plains game / wild boar / deer.

options seem to be:

Barnes
Nosler E-tip
Hornady GMX

All around 250 gr.

Any thoughts on anything else or a good choice?

Hi

I use Barnes 250 gr. TTSX in my 9,3x62 they give very good precision in my Sako 75 rifle.

I have only been lucky to shoot roe deer with this combo until now.

I have used the Norma 230 grain ecostrike factory load on several deer, and a hog. Extremely accurate in my sauer, and hits 2620 fps in my 22" barrel.

I have Eco-strikes with me this season. No luck yet. Sako Blade will become available for 9.3x62 among few others soon, also around 230gr weight and similar MV to Norma. E-S clocked 780m/s out of 20” R8 barrel.
I tried loading up E-tip and got to 777m/s but decided further development isn’t worth the effort.

Tends to be long wait times on Norma and getting components in the UK is quite tough, usually get them mailled from continental Europe - which is a shame as I rate Norma stuff.

Sorry for the late reply

I have not recovered any of the bullets, so I don´t now how they expanded in small animals like roe deer.
one of my hunting friends has recovered a few in wild boars.
One looked like a perfect advertisement from Barnes, and the other was missing one of the wings which was broken off, otherwise the projectile was nicely expanded like the other.

Check the Lapua Naturalis as well:

250gr.

I've been loading and shooting the Lapua naturals 220 gr. from my V-C "Imapct Plus" 9.3x62. Great accuracy, nice speed with VV N140, but sadly no game taken with them so far.

Managed to get one Eco-strike back. 65m distance to moose calf shoulder, went through the joint, heart and stopped to skin near last ribs. Dropped pretty much instantly. I still might try the Sako Blade next season

I really like that bullet. I had great luck with them on whitetail, but never came close to catching one. That is a beautiful mushroom.

Hi @Scrumbag

Why so sudden interest in non lead bullets for 9.3?
Just curiosity, or UK is moving to some ban on lead ammo?

Hi Mark,

It seems to be coming. The government land owner, the Forestry Commission (and counter parts in the devolved regions) are insisting on it. One of the major supermarkets has pledged to only sell game shot with non-lead bullets in a couple years so one way or another it seems to be coming.

Also, with countries like Denmark and Germany moving away from lead it seems to be coming.

I am by no means giving up on shooting lead. I'm just developing loads for my rifles so if I get a chance to shoot somewhere and need to use non-lead I know I have a load to use rather than trying to frantically find one.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
