SOUTH AFRICA: Bos en Dal Safaris 2019 Great Hunt!!

Well we all read about Johns Leopard congrats!!! Well today started out pretty cloudy and cool great hunting weather. Started out pretty typical light breakfast and off we go. We headed to a property nearby where we had been seeing game very consistently. Looking for duiker and steenbok in this high grass has me thinking I need to expand my horizons a bit and today I have convinced myself going "off list" is a good thing. Well after some poking around we are seeing all kinds of game but mostly females when all of a sudden we bump into a very sturdy common reedbuck about 30 seconds of chit chat and here we go that 7x57 pokes a clean quartering too shot and off he goes. Not 60 yards from where he stood lays a very sturdy R and W bronze reedbuck!!! Off to the skinning shed we go. A quick stop at the lodge and off we go till lunch. Had a darn good lunch (as is typical) and a little boot off time and off we go again. We had been seeing big impala everyday and of course Im saying to myself no Ive already got one so not this trip. Well mind changed when these guys crossed the road in front of us with a big ram in the back of the herd. Well off the cruiser we go up to a road above us on foot and the sticks are deployed. We were not there long when the ewes started crossing and the big ram hung right at the edge of the bush looking straight at us. He finally tried to cross the road and bang down he goes right there what a stud!!! 2 down 1 day thats a first. Now off to the skinning shed. Well it is now the perfect time to head into the bush just before dark and fire up the fox pro. You guessed it jackal are in trouble. We set up and the fox pro is maybe on for 3 minutes and a jackal jumps into the road staring straight at us. You guessed it bang and down goes said jackal!! Im really starting to like this suppressed 7x57 :) What a day weve had. This is the first time Ive taken more than 1 trophy in a day and now its warthog duiker and steenbok only on my hit list. I have had a very good hunt up to this point fighting rain the first 2 days and a blister after hunting in very wet conditions. But dam Im having a time here at Bosendal!!!

Congratulations my brother, as you know I was in Namibia during your hunt and am now just seeing this thread. Very nice trophies, I’m already looking forward to returning to Africa in 21.

Congrats for a great experience and good trophies !

Thanks for sharing.

Congrats, that nyala was dreamy looking, nice flare outs!

That impala looks huge, love the shape!!

My experience at @Bosendal was quite fun to say the least!!! One afternoon we had a bit of a tussle with a Baboon which ended with the Baboon in a cave with lots of bones and skulls laying around after a 140 grain barnes ripped through a leg it appears, bone and blood but no Baboon. Monkeys that needed thinning and small warthogs laying in the cattle trough taking a bath. I saw several animals on this trip that I had not seen on previous safari and had a wonderful time. I relaxed a bit more on this trip and tried to soak in the experience. There were some animals on my must do list that were taken and some not. The quality of the 4 trophy's I took was fantastic and my experience with my PH Frikkie Snyman was excellent. Gerrit runs a great outfit and I would not hesitate to hunt with Bosendal again. Now that Cape Buffalo seems to be the next focus and maybe finish off the Spiral and Springbok slam. The entire trip was a great success from start to finish and even my dip and ship has been easy up to this point. Quality outfit ran by a quality family who made me feel right at home!!!

Some how I missed “the rest-of-the-story”! What fine trophies you took! It sounds like a grand time! I can’t wait to read your next adventure chasing Cape buffalo! Thanks for sharing!
