From Austin 360:
Lufthansa launched its highly anticipated nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Frankfurt, Germany, on Friday, becoming the third airline to offer regular nonstop flights from Austin to Europe and the only one to fly direct to the European mainland.

The airline’s 225-passenger Airbus A330-300 will offer year-round service on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; daily service could be added eventually based on interest. Flights will leave Austin around 4 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 9:05 a.m. the following day. Return flights will leave Frankfurt at 10 a.m. and arrive in Austin at 2:05 p.m. Business class, premium economy and economy seating is available.

Heike Birlenbach, senior vice president of sales for Lufthansa, said connecting Austin and Frankfurt just made sense.

″(Austin is) one of the biggest growing cities in the U.S.,” Birlenbach said Friday while in Austin for the launch. “With the high tech scene here, we see huge growth opportunities, but it’s also about the music, culture, cuisine. Here we combine business and leisure traffic. Both are important for us, and we see huge opportunities for us as an airline and also for customers. We are writing a new chapter to connect Austin to the world.”

Birlenbach added that Austin’s numerous colleges and universities were also a factor in the new flight.

“We know about the huge capacities in terms of universities and the amount of students in and around Austin,” she said. “We believe that’s always a sign for a city to grow and for future potential. We’d like to be part of that story.”

The new flights will allow passengers to connect to more than 300 other cities served by Lufthansa in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Condor Airlines previously offered seasonal direct flights from Austin to Frankfurt but discontinued them for 2019. British Airways and Norwegian currently offer nonstop flights from Austin to London. Lufthansa also offers nonstop service to Frankfurt from Houston and Dallas.

Could be a great option for some of us. For me SJT-DFW is expensive and always have to take 5:00AM flight! Drive leisurely to Austin to take an afternoon flight, Coopers BBQ in Llano on the way and they have my attention!
Thanks
Philip

is a syxyxy- club with permanently declining quality.
Pilots went on strike more often than ever before in the German working world.
Transport ban on hunting trophies from Africa (n)
This is also Lufthansa.
In old times this company was once a pearl.

Would like be to take one of their big A380s over the water.

Condor is starting non stop flight several times a week from Minneapolis to Frankfort it should make it easier to get another flight to Windhoek

Condor had flights from Austin, but dropped those this year. Pricing a flight on Condor to Africa was not straight forward.

I would agree with that. However, USA carriers are far worse, except for the strikes.

Not sure of prices yet and when I'm ready I'll just turn Lori loose on them

Austin will always be 3rd-4th fiddle in TX. Especially regarding air travel. It has its draw for certain things. That good that there are more options getting across the pond. However, is it making it any more convenient to get to Africa?

Absolutely if you live here and Namibia is your destination.

If there is not a long layover and one is traveling to Windhoek then yes it can be a great option. The fastest way to Africa from TX is San Antonio-ATL on Delta. Wish I was going that way for my next trip. I had decent connections SJT-DFW-ATL-JNB-WDH but AA changed the schedule on me now I’ve got 4 hours in DFW and 7 in ATL. plus the gamble on what AA will do checking bags through to delta.
Sucks being in a small market and having AA as only option. The short 3 hour drive to SAT may be in the cards next time.

Please keep us posted on this if you don't mind. I'm going to do all I can to avoid J'Burg next trip to Namibia. This sounds like it could be a very viable option to me.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
