what gear do you find impossible to hunt without? What do you bring with you whenever and wherever you hunt?

Boots and a bow or gun.

rifle and ammo, water, TP, knife, my glasses, long pants, shoes, tags for game where required

Ammo, forgot it once. Realised while getting my gear out the car after a 4 hour drive... Ruined my day.

GPS. I got lost up north once and the setting sun is a good stimulus to remember it!

Hiked 3 hours to my truck then 4 hours back. Hard lesson learned. But there the ones you don't forget. All for a knife comes in handy on a DIY Mule deer hunt. Now I have many on me at all times.

Binos, Rifle, ammo and my knife.

Baby wipes are invaluable on a 4 day backcountry DIY hunt...

Just sayin...

Head lamp with extra batteries

Other than the weapon of choice for the outing, proper clothes and boots, the thing I have forgotten and really missed are binos. Especially as my eyes age. when I was younger and could move faster and farther and had great eyes, hardly ever carried binos. Of course that was all for realatively close range Minnesota hunting.

But now I don't even want to sit in tree stand without a high quality pair of binos.

Thinking of the Rocky Mountains because that’s where most of my hunting takes place, these are the items that are always on my person, not in my pack.
Good boots and socks are a must. Additionally, here’s what I carry.

Kuiu Guide Beanie, headlamp, handkerchief, range finder, leatherman, havalon knife & spare blades, paracord, light gloves, gps, toilet paper and wet wipes.
All is very light weight and fits comfortably in a pocket or on my belt.

High quality 8x42 or 10x42 binoculars in a Kuiu bino bra. There is also a tiny little FoxPro coyote howler (you can just see the round outline) in the side stretch pocket and a little FoxPro squeeker/dying rabbit call on the lanyard. The calls are not necessary, but they just kinda stay there. I never know they are there, unless I want them.

It all lives in a small dry bag about 6” x 12” x 4” (except my phone/gps) and sits on my floor at home, next to my day pack and Kennetrek’s for grab-and-go.

I usually have a small flashlight and or headlamp and take a wet washcloth in a baggie. But wet wipes are also good.
Depending were I am hunting my rangefinder is something I like and also my binos. Sometimes waterproof matches, a short length of cord/rope and something to snack on added to my other post.

All my hunts are day hunts so all I carry is what I will need for the day, so suitabe rifle and knife for the game to be hunted. Bino and or rangefinder, a form of rest and that would again be dependent on the type of ground and game so either the bog pod or the stoney point kneeling height bipod. A water bottle depending on the daytime temps. and hock straps for the carry out.

ASH BAG RIFLE CARTRIDGES

ASH BAG RIFLE CARTRIDGES

I have never used an ash bag although for some hunt situations I can see the desirabiity. As far as cartridges go, they are part of the rifle package as is the carry strap and the bolt which is why I didn't list them seperately.
