A matched pair of Freedom Arms Model 83 revolvers chambered in .475 Linebaugh. Each has taken an elk as well as white tail deer and other varmints.

Not a finer revolver off the shelf than the FA 83, and the 475 is enough to take anything that walks the earth! What are you shooting out of them?

Either a 400 grain jacketed bullet ahead of 24.0 grains of WW296/H110, or a 400 grain cast bullet ahead of 2400, Unique, or HS-6. Those bullets are so heavy, nothing around here will stop one, even at slower velocities.

Cool, thanks for sharing!

Nice! Now you need to take one to Africa and blast something big!

And this Waterbuck.

Hitman you and @edward are very capable hunters with hand guns. Good luck on the next hunt.

I find this so intriguing to be able to hunt with a handgun ..... here in Canada we are only allowed to punch paper .... so even tho I have my restricted PAL I will never posses my own handguns for hunting .

That sucks! So you can't get permitted to carry a sidearm while hunting? For things such as bear defense? I know my 329PD makes bowhunting in bear country a lot less concerning. I'm sure the pepper spray works to a degree but the attack this week in Montana shows that it isn't a 100% option either. Not that a pistol is but I'd hedge my bets toward at least 240 grains.
Sorry for getting off topic but it was a good opportunity for me to get this question answered.
Cheers,
Cody

Cody ... I think under certain circumstances you are aloud to carry ... IE mining and trapping ... I'm sure I'll be corrected if I 'm wrong . I wonder if there are PH's out there that would offer specialized hunts with handguns . Even bear spray is considered a restrictive weapon if you use it as defense against a person in Canada ...again I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong .... But I do know for sure it SUCKS ! LOL .

We need to put together a pig hunt so folks like Cody could hunt with a handgun, and be able to shoot some of the Contenders and other hunting handguns.

Hitman,
I'm in Texas and hunt with a handgun all the time, Glen is up in Canada. I'm all for getting in the middle of a hunt though. I think some of our buddies in Canada would get a hoot out of shooting out 475's! I'm also a Contender fan, had my first one when I was 15, shot a lot of deer with that Super 16 7-30 waters! Working on loads for my 375 JDJ currently

AA2520 is a good powder. I'll look for my notes and load data. Which bullets are you using? The 220 flat point is rough on deer.

I have an over abundance of sierra game king 250 grainers that I don't remember where I got them. I either bought them specifically for the JDJ or for plinking bullets for the H&H? Regardless what do you think of them for loading the JDJ?

Same here, on the other side of the pond. I can carry it but can't shoot it outside of a gun range. One exception is self defence, where the law states any adequate means are theoretically acceptable but looking at the verdicts you really gotta pause and wonder if you'd rather be mugged or sentenced. One bloke got a 5 year "holiday" cause he fired 4 times and the judge reckoned 2-3 times would have been adequate. He did it while been bashed by 3 fellows armed with steel bars in his own basement!

Oh my God! Sad thing is I believe the story completely! Complete insanity! The old saying here is " I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by six"
One thing I love about Texas is that it almost seems they encourage defensive shooting. Even the biased media doesn't negatively report on a self defense shooting. One robber at a time toward a polite society! Lol

So sanity is not extinct yet, good, I was beginning to worry

You guys awakened a monster in me ! LOL ! I started checking into the laws surrounding carrying a pistol while hunting and found out that I can and will be carrying a crosman 106 (1945 -53 ) pellet pistol for grouse while I'm moose hunting in October ...... well it's a start anyways ?

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
