USA: Monster Texas Dall Sheep Hunt With Rockin G Ranch

Never seen one of these things in real life. One day. Never think of them running around outside of a book

Funny how it is all about were you're from. Grew up with those things and we used to chase them down and try and catch them as kids. We'd actually do it once in a while.

They really are a cool little animal... In that pine straw they leave trails as they root under it looking for food. I had to wait several minutes to take that pic as I couldn't see its head.

That's a wall hanger for sure. Hope you got the opportunity to do the taxidermy for it as well. Congrats.

Wish I would have. The gentleman who shot him has spent the last few years working on his Texas sheep slam with me. He's already had a base and his other mounts stacked on it so he's going to use the same taxidermist to finish it off with the last few sheep. I'm going to do his deer if he's successful next week though.

Well best of luck to you guiding him to his buck then!

Interesting looking ram for sure, but Dall?? I'd like to know a bit about that one's genetics and history. Since Dall sheep come from the extreme NW of Canada and Alaska there must be a terrible shortage of Dall sheep in Texas.

They are not true dall sheep as you have mentioned. Many decades ago they were developed here in Texas to be a white sheep similar to the great Dalls in the NW. These were developed at the same time as the Corsican, painted desert ( very very loosely resembles a stone sheep), and black Hawaiians. They have a strong merino influence as that was a foundation breed to develop the Texas Dalls. There are only two true wild sheep in Texas and only one of them is native being the desert bighorn which lives in far west Texas. The other is the auodad sheep which was released here some 50+ years ago.

Also for what it's worth you'd be surprised what's running around in Texas. Everything from Caribou to Bongo are here somewhere. There are actually a handful of true dall and crosses running around. People have done everything from AI stuff to clone stuff.

interesting! I didn't know that.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
