Politics

My wife's cousin is one of these fellows in CA. He rides along with PD, wears a bullet proof vest, and tries to negotiate with the mentally ill on PD calls.

He's a bit of a bleeding heart, so he likes his job. I do not know whether he is effective or not because I'm not sure those that do not want therapy react positively to "therapy in the moment of crisis".

The root problem is we have a homeless-industrial complex in CA that involves NGOs, Politicians, and other distorted interests in keeping people "walking zombies" as Elon Musk describes them. Institutionalization is the only remedy for the homeless because homelessness is a symptom, mental illness and drug abuse are the root causes.
This is accurate, or at least it certainly is in San Diego. One does not have travel far in the really bad areas to know that the majority of these people are not the “regular folks down on their luck” that the NGOs and politicians try to sell them as. No housing first initiative or tiny house program or whatever fad solution is proposed will help many if not most of these people. One doesn’t have to be a psychiatrist to tell that mental illness and/or severe drug abuse is at the core of the current crisis.

The Portland toilet they installed in downtown San Diego had to be removed because the “residents” of Imperial Ave destroyed it. The encampments have caused hepatitis outbreaks. I watched a woman take a sign from a traffic flagger and attempt to strike him with it then take the chain from a construction gate and whip it around until the police wrestled her to the ground as she spit at them while screaming insane nonsense.

The homeless are more of a threat to each other than to regular people. The really bad ones will rob and assault the others. Nearly every shopping cart has a bat or a golf club in it for defense.

The city moves them from one block to the next. Shuffles them from one encampment to another.

The leftists will balk and call any effort to prevent homeless crime cruel and condemn the poor cops who have to deal with this insanity. I think it’s clear that this will never get better until the hard choice is made to return to involuntary institutionalization but few politicians will ever suggest that. They continue to blame the housing crisis as if the schizophrenic, meth-addict, defecating on the sidewalk would even be able to use a free house.

I think you have the right answer.

I think you have the right answer.
I also think that it’s a moral issue. As a society, there is a duty to help the severely mentally ill. Letting their illnesses and addictions consume and kill them is not humane but the issue gets muddled.

If you design a bench so that one can’t lay down on it, a certain element will accuse you of being cruel to the homeless while ignoring the obvious cruelty of permitting thousands of people who would not be trusted to make other decisions in society, decide to refuse treatment and require a bench to sleep on.

I mean, I understand that there are some people pushed out by housing prices and some that just need a hand but one has to have massive blinders on to not see what’s happening on the street. And there’s just so much misery caused by government and society refusing to deal with this at the root. Even if it only got a percentage off the street, that would make it so much easier to help the people who are not mentally ill since assistance could be targeted.

"Top administration officials met with Rep. Lauren Boebert Wednesday morning about the effort to force a House vote on the release of Justice Department's Epstein files, multiple sources told ABC News.

The meeting, with top White House and Justice Department officials, was part of an effort to get Boebert to remove her name from the petition to release the files, the sources said.

Boebert ultimately kept her signature on the petition.

In a statement on X, Boebert said, "I want to thank White House officials for meeting with me today. Together, we remain committed to ensuring transparency for the American people."

Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy AG Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel were among those present for the meeting, the sources said."

Nothing to see here. I guess we'll see... :A Whistle:

It’s hilarious to think that people think there is a Rolodex with names on it. Or an Excell spreadsheet with clients name on it.

It’s becoming more likely that Epstein was indeed a government operative setting up Honey Pot traps for blackmail opportunities.

Most likely for Israel. Our government realizes it would be catastrophic for US Israel relations.

many people hate Israel already. This would force the U.S. to withdraw support from Israel.

So most of the files will stay classifieds.

Seems like an intentional effort by some heavy hitters to dissuade someone of something that will reveal... nothing at all? :E Hmmm:Again, I guess time will tell.

If there is so much incriminating evidence in those files. Why didn’t the Dems used it to tarnish the Rep Party and win the election. And since the Dems had them, why they didn’t released them then? I’m sure there is a lot of dirt on a lot of important people.

I wonder about that part too, as far as timing.

I meant to say on both parties.

Unless those people are documented in writing with other witnesses, what Epstein knew went to the grave with him.
I'm sure there are high profile people from both sides of the Isle that spent time on pedophile island.
All we will get is a big nothing burger.

These are the same things that I have been saying for years. And you are right. Many regard this as cruel, disregarding the result of not intervening. There are also the issues of incarcerating those that have not actually been convicted of a crime. And it's hard to convict someone that is not mentally competent. Then there is the cost. Those that feel the expense of incarcerating the mentally ill do not see the expense of not taking these people off the street.

The entire concept is flawed beyond belief…

Large police agencies already have this capability… they have CIT (crisis intervention training) programs where specially selected officers go through fairly intensive training, largely delivered by counselors and psychologists, where they are taught how to deal with the very thing Mandami wants social workers and counselors to deal with..

NYC already has just over 8200 CIT certified police officers…

So now, rather than sending in someone trained as both a police officer and in crisis intervention… a guy we’ve invested tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in training on…

We’ll just call the local social workers offices and pay those guys $150 an hour to come handle the problem we’ve already specifically trained 8200 people to handle…

Just proves that candidates talk about shit they know nothing about.. and voters believe candidate bullshit because they are too lazy to find the truth themselves…
Thanks for bringing attention to the ignorance of liberalism as it pertains to law enforcement, and yes liberalism is a mental disorder.

I call bullshit on this. I know someone who survived Sarajevo for the duration of the siege. He is very generous in his detailing of the chaos. Warlords at war with competing warlords with civilians caught in the middle trying to live to the next day. If a warlord had gotten “a rich, white hunter” into the city, he would have been murdered himself and stripped of everything.

Urban legend bullshit.

Agreed, likely copied, twisted then regurgitated from the fiction short story written in the ‘20s, “The Most Dangerous Game”. I remember reading it in junior high. Someone under influence of a little too much dope.

A weekend warrior going into that country in that time frame for “sporting purposes” would have lasted about as long as Gavin Newsome in honest man’s debate.

Or as long as a Russian soldier on the Ukrainian front lines.

Very well stated. The Dems had all these files during the Biden Administration so if there was truly damming evidence against Trump in those files they would have selectivly released those pertaining to Trump during the run up to the elections. My guess, there is a lot of incriminating evidence in those files to implicate a lot of powerful people on both sides of the isle and also internationally. But I have my doubts that there is much in there that has Trump doing anything of consequence.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
