Welcome! Certainly glad to have you here with the rest of us! What is your number one animal you are hoping to take next year?

Thanks! Glad to be here! I’m going to be hunting in Limpopo, @ African Barefoot Safaris.

Thank you! Kudu is my #1 animal of interest. I have dreamed of taking one, ever since I was 10 or so years old.

Good day! Welcome from our side too! Enjoy your upcoming Safari!

Beautiful area! Daughter and son in law live in Stone Mountain and weekend up there often.
Yes indeed! I’ve lived here all of my life. I hunt in Ga primarily, but I’ve been trying to hunt a new place every year.
This year was S Texas turkey.
We also hunt a family farm in SE Alabama, not far from Enterprise. I also turkey hunt the Talladega Natl Forest on occasion.

My only advice would be don’t get too hung up on a list other than your #1 animal. I have seen some absolute monster kudu in the Limpopo province. Take what Africa offers and you will come home with a lifetime of memories and some good trophies.
Are you taking your own rifle?
Relax and take everything in, take lots of pictures and enjoy!

That’s exactly what I plan to do. Kudu is the only one that I am set on taking. That plan may alter, based on what opportunities are presented. Aside from that, my sole focus is to have a great time and take it all in.

As far as weapons, I plan to take my Winchester Model 70, chambered in 338 Win Mag. Ammo selection is narrowed down between Swift A Frames and Barnes TTSX, in the 225 grain range. If the 1:10 twist doesn’t stabilize the Barnes well enough, I have no doubts about the A-Frames doing their part if I do mine. I plan on spending the next year + putting as many rounds downrange as possible.
Optic is a VX3 Leupold Firedot 3.5-10x40 with the CDS dial. Mounts will be Leupold QD in case of optics failure. I will have the CDS dial cut to the load that performs the best.
I’ve considered taking my bow as well, in lieu of a backup rifle. I shoot a Mathews V3X 70#, with an arrow setup that weighs 640 grains, tipped with Kudu Contour single bevels. I’m not really sure if I want to travel with that much stuff in tow.
Backup rifles up for consideration are either a .375 Ruger or my 7mm Rem Mag.

Solid choices in rifles and optics, shot a lot of critters with .375 Ruger and 7 mag, both in the US and Africa.
Haven’t shot anything with my .338 yet but plan to soon.

A while back, I spent the weekend shooting my Model 70 with the iron sights, mostly from standing and on shooting sticks. I have a good supply of ammo for the range, so I will have no excuse for misses or poor shot placement. I’m a small statured fella, but the Magnums and big bores don’t intimidate me. In fact, I downright love them!
I will put the 338 to use this fall, when I go on my annual, backcountry bear hunt in the N Ga mountains.

Most of my hunts are solo — just me, my rifle, and a good map. Sometimes I tag along with an old buddy for a week in Zimbabwe or South Africa, but more often than not, it’s just me.
Big fan of classic hunting — bolt-action rifles, old-school tracking, and taking the time to really be in the moment.
Just did a podcast, check it out if interested!
