Question on the coat colour.

If this is a mature animal why so light in colour?

Good question, thought you would bring up the inches... ? :)
Coat color in this case had absolutely nothing to do with age it was a light colored bull, which could have even had a bit of melanism going, that's all, please refer to tips that are worn and secondary growth in this case for aging (as an FYI on the hoof I only use horn to judge age.... With the exception on Eland.)

This is were coloration should never be used as an age determinator(?) Also note the substantially broader black muzzle and face present in this specific bull and much more prominent than any of the other bulls on this thread... Any guesses?

You guys do know that your killing me? Next to a Marco Polo Sable is at the top of my want list. All these great pics are making me have second thoughts of doing the Marco Polo first. Tough choices. Bruce

BRUCE!!! I don't know man Marco Polo's also quite special, one of those physically demanding super hunts if I'm correct, I guess if you're going for Marco Polo, you're pretty much guaranteed to come around to Sable some time.. :)

It's just time and as my favorite author pointed out in various books.... It's all relative... :)

My best always.

Good to know about colour not being a perfect correlation to age in Sable.
Always have to be weird specimens.

The "secondary growth" is simple enough to pick out if you really look for it.
It shows up really well on the 46 inch bull. Very distinct ring.

Older animals always seem to be just that little bit heavier, muzzle, forehead, neck, shoulders...

I just deduct 6 inches off everything you say to get the real number. Being you always say 6 inches is a foot.

Tim the second bull is a beast IMO, could be up there , what I especially appreciate in him is the secondary growth a good 'ol boy ....

My own Roosevelt harvested late last season, also not the biggest but a good mature sable, having probably survived several Lion encounters this was truly a special day, to harvest such a special animal.

Never too old brother... I'll make it a priority. That being said, I never really looked at a Sable as a "must have" But thanks to the OP (not mentioning names) I am leaning toward it as a must have.

Jaco,,,, Never too late my friend. One thing for sure, you may have youth, we have durability... :p Our pains go away about the time yours starts...:hmmmer::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::draught::draught::draught:
