Exchange rate US and SA

yup atms are increasing allover, in zambia they are popping up which helps there as well. there must be a reason there are no atms in the int dep term at joburg and as you could fill your boots depending on your credit card limit i presume its to stop residents taking it out of the country, as you can change it at the country of your destination to thr local currency.........i travel a lot and its the only int dept terminal at an airport where there hasnt been any atms.

Thanks guys. In my experience using ATMs, I usually get a good exchange rate and then a conversion fee of 2% to 3% from my credit union or bank. I can only think of three times I got a better exchange rate than that at a cash booth - Tokyo Narita Airport, Nathan Road in Hong Kong, and Bank of China branches in China.

Sometimes the problem with developing countries is there are no ATMs or the ATMs do not have the Cirrus/Star network and then you have no choice but to use the cash exchange booths or pay for things in US Dollars. I have not been to South Africa yet but it sounds like there are plenty of ATMs. I will use the departure level ATM when I am there in May. Thanks!

It is right above the arrival area in Int side . In other words on same level as departures but actually closer to arrivals . There is a Standard bank and Nedbank with multiple ATM.'s . It is actually right above the Bereau de Change kiosks next to bookshop !

There are plenty of ATM's across RSA.

Just make sure you know which banks your credit card has a relationship with. It will make your life easier.
