"Klippies and Coke" The first lesson in PH school.
You taking up residency in RSA Wayne? Going for a license or just for the fun/knowledge?

Our (my wife and I's) favorite saying by our guide was "I am about to have a sense of humor failure" said, when things didn't go right.

That is priceless! It is going to be used often in my classes.

With the length of the trips I keep taking my wife probably thinks I reside in Southern Africa. :)

It started out as education and interest. I wanted to know what I was doing. I could not imagine going hunting and not being able to ID and judge the animals, etc.
At some point I might go to the bother of acquiring a license...... we'll see.

I just looked at some other notes I had.

One comment a PH would add when things were starting to look really tough for a stalk or the weather was not allowing the diesel truck to cooperate; "We going to battle".

He'd also have no problem handing the comments out like DOC.

Called himself a "Chirpy PH". Good natured teasing during the hunt.

And then on a cold day you get "polisiekoffie"that is coffee with a brandy.

I am sure the same set of thoughts have crossed most of our minds more than once. I know in my case I had thought about it, but reality usually gets in the way. Good luck and enjoy!

"Good Oak, that!"

Just heard that one again this afternoon, along with "Chirpy" yet again.

'cake sister', 'top botie', 'shit lap buddy "," hell ", veldskoene", "f'ing snake', 'you are an iron Brother', 'take him Fluffy', 'papn sauce', 'wooden head ',' Silas .. bastard Englishman those who snore so with a shoe ',' This Truck is shit thank you "and" this guy will not have a cow on the ass can get hit with a banjo no

Im sure something is lost in google translate!

BTW... Take him fluffy!!! LOL

..google translate doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow..! For instance, what I said was..

'Silas, throw a friggin' shoe at that snoring Englishman!'
'This truck takes no shit from anything' and, referring to clients that just cannot shoot..
'This guy couldn't hit a cow on the butt with a banjo..'

Exactly why the Banjo joke is funny.

Another is "Braai Broodjie" meaning a sandwich filled with tomato, cheese, onions and chutney. Toasted on wooden coles and served with a braai/barbeque dinner/lunch. Who ever tasted this? My personal favorite!! View attachment 25064View attachment 25065

This reminds me of the "Tomato Toasty"

After starving on an airplane on the first journey over the ocean I was standing, sleep deprived and clueless, staring at the menu board of a bistro in OR TAMBO, searching for anything that looked palatable.
This was the very first twist on our "grilled cheese".

It tasted like heaven. Still a favourite.

This pimped up version sure sounds good to.

is english (or American) as difficult for a PH to understand as Afrikaan is for Americans,,,,I just need to know what I can get away with muttering under my breath as my PH walks my Ass off this May;)

English is the official language of RSA, so no its not as difficult for them. Not everyone speaks English of course, your trackers man not at all, but your PH will speak and understand it no problem unless you throw some local slang at him that is unfamiliar.

English is the official language of RSA

In fact South Africa has 11 OFFICIAL LANGUAGES all recognized and not one superior above the other. Depending in which area you reside, the most common language in South Africa will be Xhosa, Then in Rural areas (Karoo, Freestate, Mpumalanga, and North West) - Afrikaans and the rest a good mix of both Afrikaans and English along with all other indigenous languages.

I stand corrected.

Does anyone make themselves Braai Broodjies in America? :p

Or like Selby said to Ruark "I have a feeling the guns will not be fired today"...or something like that.

I know Fanagalo is a pidgin language. Is it spoken any more in South Africa? I see it is not spoken as an official language.
