Has anyone ever received the wrong trophy ? I did today 1 out of 4 my kudu must have found another home.

Sorry to hear about the "swap" of your Kudu. I'm hoping you have already made contact with your taxi? Not sure what could be done at this point but still worth making everyone involved aware that it did happen. Who did you use for your taxi if you dont mind sharing?

My wife got sent the wrong blue wildebeest bull, the one she killed was much younger and smaller, makes me wonder if someone got the little one sent to them, we were quite disappointed but there seemed no recoursce from the taxidermist.

I really can't say it was the taxidermist or a mix up with one of the other hunters at the farm going to find out tomorrow if i can get a hold of him. But one of the hunters that I went with has got problems with paper work so he don't know when he will get his I know it's not his Kudu but it could be a big mixup of all 3 of us that shot Kudu.

Got the wrong Gemsbok. I found the other hunters name tag in the hole in the horn. (Story is on AH)

The horns were right, the shoulder mount was wrong.

The taxidermist paid for the entire reshipment of the correct animal.

The nice thing about Gemsbok is the markings are so distinctive, they are almost like fingerprints.

Hope you can work it out.

I made contact with the other hunter that was in our group he has not unpacked his stuff yet. Hopefully just a mix up with us two. The skull looks right but the horns don't

my son and I both had kudu in my shipment. I tried to swap horns back and forth on the skulls. Mine wouldn't fit on his, nor would his fit on mine.
I think if yours actually fit and go all the way down and don't turn an odd way, then the horns and skulls are a match. May not be yours, but likely belong to
each other. At least that's what I've heard. Maybe some other guys with more knowledge than me can answer that part for sure.

Usually with the horns going back onto the horn cores off the skull - they can be a tight fit sometimes even though its from the same animal. What happens is with horned game is once the horns are popped off the skull, treated and set aside to dry while the skull itself gets cleaned and whitened - During this time the horns shrink down and won't fit back on the skull. To get them back on you will have to grind down the bone off the horn cores and cut them down enough so that the horns will fit back down them correctly. We use an angle grinder or belt sander to do this.
Once this is done you can secure the horns back on with bondo or epoxy.

Yes receiving trophy's that you did not take, happens. It occurs Sometimes when groups hunt together and there trophies are in the salt shed together. You give them your tags and they know you have x amount of trophy's and the tags are placed.

As mentioned on AH and from visiting with your taxidermist is that you should take field measurements.
Like length of horns - tip to tip spread - base dimensions, if you are concerned with getting the right trophy's.

Take many Pictures from different angles.
look for scars, torn ears, hide markings.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
