What would you do to a brand new Winchester Model 70

Can’t ask for much better than that! Anything else will be more cosmetic in my mind
Agree. The suggestions I got on a trigger (need more time to decide) and springs are great suggestions. I was wondering if folks would say get a different extractor or how many would say to bed the stock.

Clean it, a bit of lube here&there, and take it to the range.
A proper bedding-job before any serious use.

I just went thru a 416 rem mag. I was not liking the epoxy bed they use. Bedded it with acraglass. Timney trigger and recoil reducer. Did all that help, yes. Was it needed probably not. But I can’t stand not making best possible shooter.

Definitely clean it before you shoot it, then take it to the range and shoot it.

I believe Model 70's are made, or least assembled, assembled in Portugal now.

Sometimes, even the best guns leave the factory with defects.

(I bought a brand new Colt Python in 1990 that would not allow me to load cartridges into the cylinder chambers - I bought the gun as a Christmas present and didn't have time to send it back. I had to pay a local gunsmith to make it work. You would have thought the LGS (most "famous" gun store in Athens, GA, BTW) would have offered to assist, but they lived down to my expectations, like they always do.

My son recently purchased a brand new Tikka and had a gunsmith do work on it (including cutting and threading the barrel) prior to him shooting it.

He was absolutely meticulous in mounting a well respected scope.

We took it to the range and was very disappointed with the accuracy.

Since the rifle was "customized" prior to the first shot, I doubt that Tikka would honor their sub-MOA guarantee, and you couldn't blame them...

Check the crossbolts. I found one of mine loose. That's all I did to mine and everything's been fine for over 300 rounds of full power loads. Mine was assembled in Portugal and was flawless cosmetically and has proven to be flawless mechanically. It's a 416 RM.

Float the barrel
Add an extra coat or 2 of lacquer to barrel channel on the stock after floating
Bed the action
Trigger work
Ramp & throat work as necessary for super smooth feeding
