I acquired this ~1927 Remington 30 Express in 30-06 last November, and have just been using it with the Lyman peep sight at the range so far. I also had a vintage Bausch & Lomb Balvar 8 scope in my late father's spare parts stash. To my pleasant surprise, there was also an externally adjusting Kuharsky base with screw holes that lined up perfectly with the holes that were already drilled and tapped in the receiver (the box for the base was marked "03 Springfield"). I found some proper screws in the spare parts pile as well, and within about an hour I had the scope mounted and adjusted to my liking. This is the type that uses the older plunger-style rings that allow the scope to be easily removed from the base. I think it turned out looking pretty good, and fitting for a vintage rifle.

PS - I am keeping the Lyman peep sight and the filler screws in the gun safe for future use.

I am quite partial to that style of rifle. Does any of the front sight interfere with the view from the scope
Gumpy
Not that I've noticed so far. I'll have to make a point of looking to see if you can even see the front sight blade through the scope, but it's definitely not glaringly obvious.

I had a mint model 30 express chambered in 30-06 with the crescent button plate. That butt plate sure made that recoil sharp and I sold it to a collector. I thought it better to sell that rifle instead of messing the rifle up. Built a fn mauser in 264WM with the proceeds.

Fine old rifle and scope set up!

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
