USA: Hells Canyon Bighorn

Great ram, congrats !

Bet those spotters made it easy.

What a memory with your girls. What a ram! Absolutely fantastic.

Congratulations, onelifetime hunt!! And nothing better that enjoy It with your daughter.

awesome job, Beautiful Ram, nothing better than hunting with your daughter. Those girls are dedicated that is some vertical country.

Harper helped load me up and everyone took a little meat and we started our decent down the side valley towards our river exit.

Few through the spotter screenshots from the video clips.

This is earlier in the morning, roughly 1450yds across the side valley, watching the gents butt heads, which was so cool to watch and then hear some 4.5-5 seconds later.

This was roughly 210 yds and about to shoot when something spooked one of the rams and they all bundled together and trotted up and back about 30yds and started milling about, so we waited another bit for him to present a shot.

Here he’s stepped back to essentially right where they were bedded prior to the muleys running through their napping area and spooking them.

This is a second before I shoot, waiting for his right front leg to come down and crosshairs on the upper black crease of his armpit and angled at his off shoulder.

Here the white puff just over his right shoulder is a tuft of hair after the Berger entered in the exact intended spot.

At the shot they all turned down and bolted. My ram only made a couple leaps before his whole front end gave out and he nosed to the ground, sliding down hill for 20-30yrds while the other 13 rams slowed to a trot as they came up out of the draw and headed around the the side, they slowed to the walk and continued their exit, one gorgeous stud short.

Really liked this shot, rams in the foreground meandering around the corner, the muleys who spooked them again on the move after our commotion.

Congrats on a terrific ram! Will be interesting to see how much he shrinks in the next 60 days - assume you’ll have it re-scored for B&C. At 185 he’ll make permanent book.

This is my first bighorn, so honestly haven’t a clue how much they shrink, but understand that they do. Thin horns certainly do, my daughter Harper missed the 3yr book by a 1/16” in 2022 for her Mt Harper ram, and it had a couple-three inches of margin when green scored

Be careful of this Wolfen guy. 2 messages. Both trying to sell something. He PM'ed me trying to sell something and he PM'ed my friend on here trying to sell something. Fishy.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
