For my next hunt in SA I am wanting to hunt a Tsessebee. I know they are one of Africa's fastest antelope and are a herd animal but that is about it. Anyone hunted one who could tell me what kind of hunt to expect?
I killed mine after one of the trackers spotted a group of three feeding together near a small dam. We were distracted watching some kudu the other direction.
We made a 30-40 minute stalk and shot him between 1-200 yards. It seemed to me the bulls love to rub in the mud . Mine was feeding and never knew we were there. I didn’t feel like they were as spooky as other antelope but I would guess that is area specific. I know they got scarce after I killed mine!
Go to YouTube and check out the footage of killing mine. “Buffalo and plains game with game4africa safaris 2025.” Much of the stalk got edited out for time sake. There was a cool moment where a lechwe bull pushed a cow between us and the tsessebe and I thought we were busted. It isn’t in the film which is a shame. Not the most interesting trophy I’ve ever taken but I’m glad I did it.
They will require a permit to hunt. Sometimes that permit can be difficult on short notice, so arrange with your outfitter when you book.
not the fancy posed picture. We were on a property with a reasonable population so it was a matter of finding an older male and a couple of stalks and a 150 yard shot. Beautiful animals.
