Travel to California with gun

It isn't like you are traveling to South Africa and have to pass through customs and have a permit...............YET.
But you you do have to pass through agriculture inspection if traveling by road. My buddy from the Sacramento area hunts in Nevada quite often and he says they can get pretty thorough at times and some times it’s just a wave through.

It's been a very long time since I have driven to California. I do remember the checks along with them in Arizona. But all you had to do was to tell them that you didn't have any fruit or vegetables and on you went.

So are they now asking if you have any firearms and ammo?

Not specifically but they have checked his birds and guns turned up in the search and they were inspected.

I doubt it. They're an agriculture check station and during dove season they have CA Fish and Game checking dove limits/licenses for hunters coming back from AZ. Back in the '80s, we were coming back from AZ and stopped at the check station. If you told them you had been hunting doves, they had you wait in the LONG line with the other hunters to get checked. Well, I had brought back some cotton from AZ as a souvenir, so to speak. When the lady at the initial stop asked about fruits/vegetables, I told her I had some cotton. She told me I couldn't bring it into CA. So, I gave her the cotton and she was very happy (I guess Brownie points) and she told us we didn't have to wait in the dove hunters check line and sent us on our way. So, bring some cotton with you and give it to them at the check station. LOL

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
