Bought some snap caps for a new gun (no ammo yet), and when I tested them, the first (right) chambered perfectly. The second and third (left and middle) would get stuck and were left with a little dent across the case and bullet. What is going on? Is this the seating depth issue or do you think it’s a chamber problem?

Those snap caps or just bullets with no powder?.

What i do for reloading to get my start to seat. I take my rem bolt apart and put a round in thats very over sized on length and slowly back it down until the bolt closes on it with 0 effort. And your right at the lands

Technically, I guess bullets with no powder, but the primer is rubber so I’m going to call and snap caps for the sake of this

Whats that goop on the bullets. My first guess would be thats potentially an issue. But those long lines got me beat have you looked in your chamber for anything that might be in there?

Nail polish to mark the dummies. Didn’t even think that might be an issue. Guess I’m going out to dig out my wife’s nail polish remover and see

Use a sharpie if your going to mark dummies or theres a brass die that will black the case but wont add thickness

Snap caps worked great in my DRs and Rigby told me unless I was doing thousands of dry fires on my bolt actions don’t worry. I decided to make my own anyway by taking a spent case putting a bullet in it then pouring silicon in the priming hole. Works great!

That scratch and dent looks to be caused by a burr or sharp edge. Mark a case with sharpie or similar around the neck and projectile and mark the top of the case, for orientation and chamber a round, when ejected it should show the spot to check
Gumpy
I will definitely do that. I also have a borescope coming in as we speak.

Are you sure the lines weren’t already there? Easy to buckle the small shoulders when seating the bullet if the neck tension is too high. I’d measure the shoulder diameter vs a factory or resized brass round. Before I figured out my 6x47 rem it would do this crap all the time.

Also possible they made the snap caps with junk brass.

No. On those two rounds specifically they are actually getting stuck in the chamber and the bolt cannot close. On the other one, it’s fine. I have also run a test to find exactly where in the chamber they are getting caught (shoutout to @Grumpy gumpy for giving me a quick and basic idea).

I'm pretty sure you've got a burr in the chamber. Remove the bolt. Then get a 3-piece cleaning rod and a bore brush that's for somewhat smaller cartridge. Screw brush onto just the last length of rod. Wrap some medium coarse steel wool onto the bristles of the brush. Then put the other end of the cleaning rod into portable drill and tighten. Insert brush into chamber and start drill. You may need two lengths of rod to clear the stock's comb depending on stock design. Clean thoroughly afterwards.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
