Thoughts On Price Experience on AH

Where would it end? One person’s good intentions are another’s bad manners. There is a sponsor’s hunt ad up now with $500 baboons in eastern cape. Unless someone posts something beyond the price or the item is misrepresented I don’t think comments are warranted.

Remember when I mentioned in a thread a couple months ago or so that I had started seeing outfitters listing baboons for $500 instead of free or super cheap and you seemed not to believe those numbers? I've seen it on a few outfitters price sheets now. It's wild. I've also seen a couple with insane prices for Jackals too.

In all fairness to them, if someone was willing to pay me $500 an animal to come do predator control on a property I manage, I would be doing it too. But it does seem things are changing a bit.

Ive never tried to discourage a buyer.. if someone wants to buy something from a seller, they need to determine what they think the value is... sometimes Im willing to pay a premium for something because I want it now and while over priced, this particular item is available now, and they dont come along every day, etc..

That said, I have on occasion tried to coach a seller on AH..

I never do that publicly however..

An example I'd give is we had a seller here that was looking to sell a fairly high end optic that was "like new", still had the box, etc.. under normal circumstances I would have thought the initial asking price was a little high, but not necessarily bad or unfair..

I knew however that a major retailer was at the same time running a pretty incredible deal on the same optic, where it would be new in the box (rather than "like new") for slightly less than what the seller was asking..

So I sent him a PM, tried to be polite about it, and just advised something to the effect of "you might not be aware.. but company XXXXX is running a sale on the same optic youre trying to sell.. and their new optic is a little cheaper than yours is... that might be why youre not getting any offers...".. and then I provided the seller a link...

In my mind I was trying to help the seller.. and just making sure he was aware of what was going on..

He was in turn receptive and thanked me for the information, and asked for a little advice on pricing it moving forward..

I think that is really a nice summary of what the community has said is the right thing to do...thanks again everyone for your thoughts.

Vaguely. It remains a huge red flag to me.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
