Texas: Whitetail: She did good!!!!

Congrats to the young lady, great deer.

What part of the state are you in? We're in Mills County; we usually do our surveys at the end of August. We start 40-50 mins after sunset... so just when it really gets dark. We're on about 1,000 acres we usually see between 50-70 deer and we normally have 50-75 individual bucks. We get a ton of tags every year cause none of our neighbor’s shoot does. We also feed about 40,000lbs of protein a year.

We're in Harrison County, just outside of Longview.. We did our surveys in August as well.. one a week for 3 weeks..

We get a reasonable amount of tags.. but definitely not an abundance.. our issue isnt other hunters.. we rarely ever hear another shot within a mile of our place, and there are no adjacent properties that are huntable...

our issue is we are literally just outside of Longview.. so while we're on almost 700 acres, what borders us are neighborhoods and a pretty big industrial park on one side.. our deer and pigs arent completely locked in.. but there isnt a whole lot of room for them to free roam outside of our property either without having to cross busy streets or go through a neighborhood, etc..

We've talked about feeding protien, but have pretty much stuck to corn this year... I honestly dont have a clue how much we have thrown.. we've got 5x 300lb feeders running.. for several months we had them throwing for 5 seconds, 3 times a day... about a month ago we cut them back to just 3 seconds twice a day (about 30 minutes after sun up and 1 hour before sun down).. that seems to be enough to keep them coming back daily for a free meal... about 300 acres of the property is a big open hay field that has an african grass growing in it that the deer love... so they tend to stay out there most of the night.. thankfully, while a longish shot (200-400 yards depending on where youre looking) that field is overlooked by 2 of our blinds.. so we are just as likely to get a hay eating deer as we are a corn eating deer..

Our season opened Saturday 9/27 (MLDP Conservation Option), we've been watching this deer since he was 2.5 and had 12 points. We all agreed to let him walk last year when he had 15 points. We held our breath all year knowing he was traveling to the neighbor to the north and east but luckily, he made it through the season. She's taken 5 deer but never a trophy buck. I told her older brother she was going to get the first shot this year and he understood. He had 13 points this year but put on a ton of mass and tine length compared to last year, ended up scoring 151" with 33 3/8" of mass. Was also the first deer she shot with the rifle I built for her birthday this past March.

@TXhunter65, Where in Mills County are you located? In addition to the Reserve Ranch near La Pryor I own the San Saba Peak Ranch about 7 miles South of Goldthwaite.

Outstanding Buck, proof of solid management. Congratulations all around!

We're in between Comanche and Goldthwaite on Hwy 16.

I would call that buck a "double meat with extra cheese". Well done!

I'm next to Toledo Bend and Sabine Forest. So, not far, in fact was in Longview the other day, mother lives there. She's had a few deer in her yard, and she's right outside the loop. We NEED RAIN. The hogs are making me go down in the low, and I mean LOW river bottom. It's too dry for them up higher. Feeders running up higher for the deer, but that's for those I've leased to.

You are an excellent dad. Congrats. One to be proud of
