Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 Carl Gustafson action, is it good? What caliber build?

Von Gruff, the challenge is to try and decide when it is right, when to stop fiddeling and sanding it ..would lacquer thinner work as well to raise the grain or is water still the best method to raise the grain?? To what sanding paper grid did you go down to for final sanding work on the stock?

I use a cloth with warm water for best effect to raise grain but have sanded the stck to at leats 350 before I do and then raise with 350 grit then twice at 600 grit then wet sand with 600 grit over a drop or two of BLO to fill the grain before looking at an alkanet coat or two it the stock warrants it.
The final sanding grit will depend on the grade of walnut as some open pored wood will not respond as well to a higher grit as will a good dense blank and then I will go to 1000 grit

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
