I picked up this old Teddy Roosevelt book awhile back in an old book store, also found a photo log of African game from around the same time frame. I don't have any pictures of it because I cant climb the stairs to get to it.

Well done! And in excellent shape as well. It is a great read (as are all of the many works that he wrote), and many of us have a copy in our library. His history of the "The Naval War of 1812" is superb and recognized as such by historians today. As one would suspect, his "Rough Riders" is excellent and written as only he could from his unique perspective. You should try to do some research on Edward Stieglitz. The dates are correct and name unusual enough for him to possibly have been this well fairly well known physician/ philosopher https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Second_Forty_Years His most famous quote was,

"In the end it's not the years in your life that count, It's the life in your years." Sounds like Roosevelt's works may just have influenced him. :E Hmmm:

This is a collection of TR's works prior to his post-presidential African and South American expeditions. The latter chronicled in "Through the Brazilian Wilderness," broke his health, contributing to his relatively early death at 61.

Again, congrats on your find.

Thanks, looks like you have quite the collection. I'm hoping to get cleared to climb stairs when I see the Dr on Thursday, so I can get to my office and take a picture of the other book.

Nice looking floor.

I just started reading Bret Baier's new book on TR. Despite being born into wealth, TR endured some major setbacks at a young age. TR's dad died when he was 19. When TR was 25, both his mom and wife died on the same day, Valentine's day, 1884.

Great book. I'm 3/4 through it (although a boringly modern hardback version) in my book rotation.
Enjoying it immensely.
That's a lovely old version you have.

Probably the biggest and best Safari of the time. He spent a year on safari and harvested a lot of animals for the Smithsonian. After reading this book, I started looking for other books on early African hunting.

This is etched on a wall of the American Museum of Natural History in NYC. Whenever I am there, I walk to this, pause, read it slowly, and then go check out all the animals, and the hall of NW Indians.

My Roosevelt books are really worn!
Must have been read many many times in the last 115yrs!

I really love collecting old books even if they’re not in perfect condition.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
